    I don’tknow I’ve never thought about it

I suppose it’s showcasing the beautiful, and no ordinary female would want to do it... it takes a lot for those girls to get there and they have to have a very good reputation any bad negative traits they wouldn’t get near it.

If the girls taking part thought they were being objectified they wouldn’t do it. As long as it’s harmless fun and nobody is forced to do things against their will then let it carry on.. beauty has always been a thing either you are born with it or u aren’t... these women are ovb born with it

I loved participating as a little kid but I think it can be. It was fun because it’s like you’re a princess and people are judging how pretty your dress is and your hair which is kind of objectifying, but in wider-spread pageants where there are talent portions and Q and A’s, it’s a little bit less so.

I️ used to be a pageant girl haha. I️ don’t think they objectify women for their bodies as much as they are a money machine. These contestants are spending 10k for a chance to win a sash, crown, and to travel and do charity work. You can do that of what your title is. .

Yes, absolutely. Same as football is a way to objectify men. Nice thing is, in a free society we are able to make choices others can't relate to or understand. That should also mean we don't have any right or responsibility to take those choices away from people, especially if we don't want our choices taken away from us. Unfortunately, that's not the reality. Everyone seems to believe their fundamental rights include the right to take other people's rights away, while demanding their own rights are inalienable. Sad, really.

I would say so. But that's not what I find troubling and annoying about them. What I find troubling and annoying about them is how fake and superficial they are. And especially in the case of beauty pageants with children, I think that's really sad.

i'd have to say yes. looking at a hot woman is not objectification, but they are literally scored on their bust, waist and hip measurements, their "appropriate responses" and their "special talents". its not really my thing, i think its pretty distasteful.

kiddy pageants are worse though 😥

What I dislike is the women are representing a country, yet one of the parents is from another. They need to change the criteria in order for the contestants to be eligible. You shouldn't represent one country if your parents aren't both from that country.

You represent whatever Nation-State you are a citizen of.
If you are Chinese and you´ve been born and raised in Canada and have no Chinese citizenship you will have to represent Canada.

I rarely watch stuff like that, but the funny thing is, they're not that beautiful. I mean, they are ok, most of them are fine, but I see better looking females on the street, so I don't see the point.

I have known several women who have participated in major pageants, one of my hs friends did very well, and I dated a few as well.

The women that do it are ambitious and use it to get ahead. The women that don't like it are jealous of them.

Yes? Does that mean we should stop doing it? Doubt it. Swimming is also a way to objectify women, does that make female swimming bad? Should we just hand out burkas already? Anything could be used to objectify women if you want it to

I believe objectification is something unwilling. I think CHILD beauty pageants objectify girls, but once you get to a certain age where you can consent and you want to do it then not really.

Not exactly but still yes. The beauty contest itself is harmless, but several other things surrounding the pageant industry is very disturbing.

its a way to make other girls feel like they gotta look like that in order to be somewhat beautiful. i think beauty pageants, modelling, etc is stupid because it puts 100% false body and beauty standards in girl's faces

yeah but the participants are grown women who are there voluntarily, lets not pretend they're victims or being exploited, child beauty pageants are another issue for a different thread

Umm unless you're most women you probably shouldn't speak for them.

Besides when you look at it they're both judged pretty much the same way. Women walk out showing off their bodies. Men walk out really showing off their bodies.
