Can climate change activists explain to me how the planet is warming if my city is currently in the middle of an artic blast?

Well, it would take about 2 years of physics and mathematics, but, really, it's intuitive.
When you put a blanket on your bed, you body heat is retained more because it cannot so easily escape away from your body.
Well, the greenhouse gases that we are putting into the environment are a form of blanket. So, less heat from Earth is radiating into space but remains in the environment.

This was first predicted in 1896 by Nobel Prize winner Svante Arrhenius.

Yes, one is called climate the other is called weather.

Climate is measured over 30years periods and wether is daily or weekly, maybe a month or two.

One super cold winter doesn't change the overal measureable global increase in temperature.

Doubtless- but since they're not here, I'll explain it: rising temperatures are an average. The rise is average temperatures doesn't mean it's never going to snow again.

It's just an average. Just because your city gets ice cold every year doesn't refute the idea that the Earth's temperature's on average are rising roughly.01 degrees per year.
