I have a few points. I think armor is very fascinating and when you recognize the differ t armor from different eras and regions, it’s even more interesting. I personally always liked the way the armor of Templars and Hospitallers looked. I’m intrigued not just by European armor either. Roman, Greek, and Samurai armor all connect with fascinating histories.
As far as your friends looking down on your interest, that’s just ignorant. History is a deeply woven series of clashes and conflicts between various tribes, religions, races, ethnicities, nations, kings, queens, ideologies, and so on. Interspersed in there is discovery, growth, and stories of the human experience ranging across the spectrum of human emotions. To cling to some outdated loyalty is just silly. As an American I’m fascinated by British Colonial History, including my one nations War of Independence. Im kind guilty of some Loyalist sympathies in that time! (My family teases me mercilessly!) Im neck deep in an 800 page book about the history of the Zulu Nation. I have Russian & Chinese friends even though our nations historically have been at odds.
I admire your independence of thinking and ability to not let history from thousands of years ago shape your mindset. Well done!
Thank you for your understanding 🥹❤️
The armour shown is early medieval, I’ve actually worn later medieval stuff and done the carry a big sword thing, these guys were incredibly fit and also skilled. A friend as part of his ceremonial uniform still wears a full on breast plate. Admittedly it ain’t going to stop anything, that’s where ceramics and things such as Virtus System come in to use. VST is also designed for women as well. Also a good suit, shoes etc is a level of protection that often opens doors and gives a protection of its own.
Really interesting answer thank you! May I ask you what kind of ceremony?
As in Blues and Royals, part of the Household Cavalry.
nice!!
Remember those knobheads that went to the Qatar world cup dressed as Crusaders? It didn't end well for them.
Yes 🫣😂
I don't mind it. In fact, knightcore is one of my favorite aesthetics.

Damn 😍😍😍😍🫢 if its not intrusive, would you ask your partner to wear this👁👄👁 because my girl friends find me weird so I’m trying to find girls who understand me 🤫
I'm unsure if I'd ask due to it all being metal. Actual knight attire had to be heavy, but that'd be expected since it's protection. If there was a knight outfit that was just cotton and didn't look ugly, maybe.
wow yeah there is some in cotton haha thank you for your opinion :)
You're welcome

A correction first. It is all middle ages now - early middle and late. Historians have decided that the dark ages and medieval are derogative terms. You can get cancelled for using them. Just a fair polite warning. :)
I think there is something in the pic meme. Not that full plate armor was worn all the time and there were different types. Jousting armor, actual war armor and I think dress armor. I have seen Victor Emanuel II chain mail (~ 1860) and it looked pretty dress up to me.
I think it would be great if we could clank our way to the office in chain mail with our trusty arming swords strapped to our side. Then bang the helmet down on the desk.
Thank you for this interesting answer!! I just joined the site so I will check if I can correct the title thank you! Are you an historian yourself (if it’s not intrusive to ask)?
geez you stressed me out i was trying to change it haha
Apologies for that. I think there was a dark ages and a medieval period and sort of thought it a funny concept that crusty historians would hound those of use who who still say dark ages and medieval.
I have seen a museum and post fall of Rome was meaner and nastier than the neolithic period before it.. It was truly dark.
I do think it was reasonable to have Crusades because the Levant was Christian at the time and I am not going to bs about that. I most strongly think it is time we all got over it. One of the nice things is that whilst Australia invaded Turkey in WWI, Ataturk wrote beautiful conciliatory words that our sons were resting in Turkeys soil and were Turkeys sons as well.
This gets repeated every Anzac day. If there was another Ataturk it might be better.
oh yeah i always liked the mindset of ataturk! Didk you really see crusades in a museum in australia? i went to france and i was desesperate to find something on crusades but nothing :(
No, that was in Torino Italy that I saw the armor. Torino has several fine museums and one of the best for ancient egypt. The one with plate armor was good because the "knights" were mounted on "horses" so you got a better idea of how they would look. A local museum does have some armor but not much. Also armored knights lasted for a long time so I don't recollect if what I was looking at was in the Crusading period.
Romans had chain mail then went to plate (segmentata) and back to chain mail. In the 800 900's they used chain mail but eventually plate armor superceeded it. Henry VIII was still jousting in plate armor in the 1500's but by the English civil war (1600's) they wore buff coats - thick heavy leather coats from buffalo hides.
In the crusading period, the upper echelon would have plate armor and the less wealthy chain mail I'd expect. The bottom ranks made do with leather and padded jackets
really interesting thank you for precisions! thats why i made this post ! hope to reunite some fans haha. Im mostly interesting in crusadings because im fascinated by the mix between religious life and warriors ( templars knight had the right to fight but not the monks)
Yes Templars were interesting. Monk knights. The Hospitallers too
Bishop Odo of Bayeux was a warrior, though he might not have done much fighting, he was at the Battle of Hastings. Technically the proscription was to not shed blood, which he interpreted, meant it was fine to use a mace in battle and stove peoples heads in.
It seems Bishops did raised armies and fight in Crusades but I don't how much they did personally.
The last Pope to raise an army was in the 1860's during the unification of Italy. That is not so long ago!
The clergy wasn't necessarily as pure as it might have been. Odo was very greedy for money. Several popes regarded celibacy as aspirational and appear to have fathered children during their reign. Plus there was a lot of edicts against wives and concubines for the clergy so it must have been common

Sadly, one could argue that Cars are the modern analogue to suits of armour; they are both used to armour the user while mounted, they are both symbols of status and rank, they both wear symbols of allegiance to a specific group (e. g. badge), etc.
Thank you I will think about it 🫡
I like it, but I like the Scottish kilt most. A man that shows up to battle with a sword in a skirt is making a statement. If the skirt is only 2 inches, he's making a bigger statement.
If people feel more secure wearing chain mail so be it...
Sorry I’m not sure I got your point 😮
a man standing their with a piece of cloth and his thing hanging out in the face of even 100 men wearing metal armor... the 100 men should run...
Long live the Scotts!
ok he was an actor, but yea...
ahh i just got it haha
As someone who is part of a medieval european martial arts group, I wear all kinds of armor and practice fighting with real long swords. Although, we mainly practice within the periods of 15th to 16th centuries rather than utilize equipment associated with the templars (before 14th). We also attend events and wear medieval clothing.
Incredible you have this kind of courses I’m jealous 😮😮 thanks for picture highly appreciated 🤓🙏

Thank you for sharing 🤫
Thank you for your post! 👍
Fun fact, medieval armor went out of style because of guns made it more of a burden than a asset.
A bit like the modern tank today , as modern missile and drone technology outpaces the countermeasures making the tank more and more an liability as the burden of its defense becomes more costly than what it brings to the table.
WoW thanks for sharing! I definitely curse the guns 🤧
This armor don't protect from guns, that's why warriors stop wearing medieval armor.
Indeed and it’s sad because I think sword fighting was kind of stylish compared to guns we have nowadays…
Yea that's why medieval video games are pretty popular, it interesting setting.

nice!!
I love men in armour it's one of my biggest fantasies
Me too but no one understands it welcome in the club 🥹
🙂😊 it's a good club to be in.
So I think what you're saying is that as a Canadian-Muslim you want to be taken by an English crusader's sword?
I don't think you're the only Canadian, to be fair.
I don’t get your point. My point is rather that I find crusader outfit aesthetic and I don’t get why because I’m of a different religion i couldn’t find it beautiful
It could end badly, though...

How about this for armor?
Nop…lacks the helmet and the chivalry 🤧
Isn't that pretty much what the modern bullet proof vest is? Or at least the Lvl-4 stuff
Nop the helmet lacks 🤫
But it has a visor!
www.ebay.com/.../304797153580
but it doesn't have the same charm as this one !
(ok the site dont let me link but the crusader helmet is unique)
Just for that now I've got to find a way to commission a modern crusader helmet with NVG bracket and coms...
yes please!!! give me some news if you succeed may the force be with you
WIll do! Cheers!
Ehh not my thang I'm going for the victorian vampire man vibe
i will quote you not my thing hihi
There are many different types of armor, worn on the battlefield, corporate world, in the dating world, etc. Good armor is essential to every mans kit.
Your last sentence gives me hope thank you sir 🥳
def attractive
Yes so sad no one’s wears it nowadays 😭
As long as I have head and groin protection, I think that is plenty!🤪
Dont worry the most important is the helmet 🤓
😮🤪😉
Captivating & attractive
Only at Halloween
Thank you for the answer 🥲
