Seems like each side is trying to "own" the other side.

Has this division gotten worse or just more prevalent thanks to technology and social media?

WW1 & 2 - There was a sharp division between pro-war and pro-isolation. I imagine a few anecdotes from political discourse would sound vaguely familiar to today.

Civil War - Pro-succession/slavery vs Pro-Union and anti-slavery. We know how that story ended. But surely it started with dividing the common folk at the root namely the family unit.

Is it the same story different generation?
