The evolution of politics to its current state is that which George Washington foresaw and hoped wouldn't occur.
It has, and to a critical extent.

A two-party system, with each party deadlocked against the other, has gotten us worse than nowhere, fast.

The exponential acceleration of the inability of government to adequately function in recent decades is absolutely frustrating to me, and to many others.

While I believe in the tenets of U. S. government, having high ideals that were once sought, and still are, but have remained unattainable in many ways and for many reasons, but still having great merit, have fallen on extremely hard times.

Would a system of ranked voting help?
Figuring that out is above my pay grade.
Is anyone seriously in consideration of such a change?

I'm tired of having to pick the lesser of evils when I vote.
I'm 67 years old.
I've never felt, when I've gone to the voting polls, as far back as 1976, when I became eligible to vote, that I was voting for a candidate, but instead that I was voting against an evil.
How insane is that?
When I look back at decades previous to then, it seems that there were candidates who would have been worthy of my vote.
JFK was the last President that I can say was a true American leader.

Are the political scientists of today simply justifying their own existences by continuing to do nothing of value to strengthen our nation?

Justifying one's continued existence by doing nothing of concrete value seems to be epidemic in all facets of today's society.
Though self-preservation is a natural human response to life, tasks that must be accomplished instead of being constantly mulled over, must be accomplished, or we'll fall.
To continue to self-justify one's unending non-productive blather serves nothing except the selfishness of the self-justifiers.
Selfishness is the root problem, as I see things.

There is a solution.

The ending of no term limits, insider trading, revolving door politics, special perks for elected officials, politicians in the game solely to make lucrative careers for themselves, instead of serving OUR country, is a MUST.
Those things can end, but someone has to pick up the ball and run with it, building grass-roots coalitions, getting petitions signed in order to bring constitutional amendments to the vote of THE PEOPLE, to initiate term limits and ending other governmental ills.
Continuing to allow the shysters who now run (?) things to remain as they are, wholly ineffective, must end if we're to survive as a nation.

I'd like to think that, when I was a young man, if I knew then that things would get this bad, even though I'm probably the furthest type of person who would ever desire to enter into shaping the future of our nation, I'd have stepped up to do something about the way things now have come to be.
Back then, I was young and mostly disinterested, thinking only of myself.
I'm now an old man.
We need someone young and strong to get the process rolling, not a politician, but someone who'll round up supporters to end the current, stagnant situation.
People who'll go out door to door, to get petitions signed to bring about a vote to have term limits applied, and to put an end to the corruption that goes along with career politics.

That process will likely take years to reach its goal.
If not started now, today, when will it ever take place?

There was a time when service to our government meant that those who did so were making personal sacrifices in order to do so, not constructing cushy situations for themselves.

It can be done.
I'll go get petitions signed, as best as I'm now able to do, but I'm no longer young enough to lead such an effort.

Or maybe I should go for it.

This is not an office to hope to be elected into.
It's a job.
There is no employer to have to be convinced to hire us.
There's no one to tell us no, you can't do that.
It just needs to be done.
The average Joe or Jane, struggling to keep body and soul, and families, together, can't do it alone, not without support.
The average Joe or Jane, though, can do their parts in the overall task.
Maybe it'd wake up some others who've previously said that term limits will never happen.
I say bullshit to thinking that that which is required is impossible.
A 2/3 majority popular vote will do it.
That's it.
It's not impossible.
There's only one way to do it.
Just do it.

If we as a nation think that something's impossible, it'll remain impossible.

Let's think of possibilities, not impossibilities.

Momentum that's built from a small clod of dirt that's just starting to roll down a hill is momentum that can grow into potential avalanches of change.

Let's roll.

Was it ever like that? I don't think it was...
An importance in a debate is understanding the other's argument, but people don't and then like to have brick wall arguments.
I have been involved in several cause they simply didn't understand my point, then ya know what happens it descends into not even talking about what I said or them. Human nature can't be changed sadly.

Still brings the funniest moments though of someone thinking I'm conservative, when I quoted Marx. A nuance of a take is lost on others.

No. There will always be petty and weak minded people in the world. When somebody replies with insult that probably means they don’t have anything logical or cannot come up with facts to say to make them look good in an argument.
