Do you have to be either completely conservative or completely liberal in modern politics to have a discussion?

Today I answered two gag political questions. When I answered someone who was conservative I was called ignorant and labeled a leftist. When I answered someone was liberal I was called a buffoon that trump wants.

Must you be 100% right or 100% left these days or are some people moderate in their political beliefs?

People who are on the extreme ends of the spectrum, either left or right, are almost automatically guaranteed to label you a liberal/conservative if you disagree with even one of their opinions.

It's absolutely exhausting, trying to have a reasonable conversation about politics, anymore, but that's the kind of environment that politics has become. It's all become "us versus them" and "you're either with us, or against us".

That's a big part of what's wrong with the country, right now. There's no compromise. Our government represents liberals, conservatives, and everything in between, but the extreme wings want everything their way, at the expense of everyone else, because they only care about themselves.

Yep you are right. Having a conversation and listening and learning the facts can be beneficial. But usually when someone starts defaulting to slander and insults and putting someone in a box that’s not good faith. Gaslighting and trolling seem to get more and more

Most of the time, people don't want to learn, anymore. They don't want to see the other side. They've got their opinion, and if you don't reinforce that opinion, you just get insults. They don't want a discussion; they want an echo chamber.

What's worse is that both sides do this; they constantly accuse the other side of doing it, and yet can't recognize the same qualities in themselves.

With the policies and law we make today will be written down as history and will define who we are as people. It's not about being a level headed person but to define a what a level headed person is.

As a left leaning person i don't believe we should hunt down and genocide homeless people or transgender people. The right clearly want to make a sport about it. What's being in the middle have to say?

You asked how a moderate would have a say on homelessness and trans? Probably that there are larger issues to focus on like the economy and freedoms. Let states come up with solutions for homelessness and let the feds get our economy moving again

On gag that seems to be the case, somehow. You allways get pushed in one direction from the American spectrum here, even if you are something completly different that just doesn't seem to exists over there. I mean they only have two parties so that doesn't help.

In real political discussions that dont result in insults when one party doesn't know what to say anymore, that isn't the case. When you talk with people who actually know what they are talking about, its about input and arguments and not about winning against the other party. No one cares who you support policitcal, if you have an opinion you can support with actual arguments (even better sources).

I don't think so. I'm between them, and I often wish someone would bring someone in the middle onto a talk show or a podcast just so I could see there are other people who share my opinions. They could also probably add some good substance as there are less extremes.
