Perhaps, perhaps not. It's quite possible that lying was the best action you could have taken. Many young men in the US left the country to avoid being conscripted for service in the Vietnam War. History proved that they made the correct choice. Many Russians fled the country to avoid military service after Putin invaded Ukraine. In my opinion they did the right thing both for themselves and for the world.
