Most men did not oppressed women in their minds and most women were not feeling oppressed until modernity. It was just a natural order of things for that people. It was just socially unacceptable to do certain things, because of their worldview, culture and religion.

Example: women wanting to learn at school in middle-ages was just viewed as unfeminine and worthy of shame as 20 years ago we would view a men that want to wear pink dresses and high heels.

It was just culture and worldwide that were passed from generations to generations. Over the time it just changed/evolved.

You now look at the people in the past and want to judge from today's perspective. This is unreasonable. To both men and women at that time you would be evil witch/crazy or something if you would suggest them today's solutions. For most people in the past you will not be seen as liberator but as a threat to natural order and society.

There were huge changes in thinking/philosophy/worldview over history, for example: -that power to rule may come from voting (democracy) and not God given to a king and so on. -that slavery is bad. It was ok and normal to have slaves in the past through most of ancient world. -that scientific method should be used for experimentation and not theology related stuff. Each epoch gave something to civilisation.

So do not judge people by today's standards. You would be judged as weird/insane at best by them.

Its not just men.

Society over the last thousand years have has been ruled by hegemonial masculine power.

Meaning cisgendered manly man have been in charge of most things, political power, wealth, religion, laws, ... and women and other man, have been contributing, mostly unknowingly and unwillingly, to maintain this status quo.

You can look at laws described in the old testament, where injuries to a woman or other crimes with woman as the victim are described as property damage to the mans (father or husband) property.

Or the right to vote is not too old, in most european countries women were given the equal right to vote, at the beginning of the 20th century. Before that women and slaves had no vote or their vote didn't count as much ss that of a man.

Same for homosexual men, as a minority they are also oppressed. Some people even quote the bible as an excuse for their homophobia, even though homosexuality is a new concept that didn't exist when the bible was written.

It's getting better thankfully. Women can now vote, drive a car, enter into legal contracts if they're 18 and older, get a job/have a career, etc. It didn't use to be that way till women revolted and got angry at society and how it was back then. They pushed for equality and got it.

For the most part they got it. However, we still are scientifically the "weaker" sex because of our different skills and abilities. Men are stronger because they usually carry more muscle mass by default because they have more dense muscle fibers in their muscles than women do. So yeah, traditionally, men have had to go to the Military and work in the Mine Fields or Construction, or just over all jobs that required more physical strength.

Women on the other hand, got to tend to the home and carry life in their wombs. Make her and her family's meals and set the table and do other domestic labor. She usually raised the babies and read to them, etc.

However now times have changed and men can also participate in household work/chores and women can now be the breadwinners, and men can raise the babies lol. Just make sure to pump your breastmilk before you head to work in corporate America 😉.
