Explain to me what's going on with Texas?

In brief, Texas is a major crossing point for illegal immigrants not only from Mexico but around the world. During the Trump administration, a policy was implemented whereby if an immigrant wanted to come to the USA, they would have to "remain in Mexico" until they had been cleared to enter the USA.
With the election of the Biden administration, all limitations were lifted and the result was a flood of illegal immigrants. Immigrants who were caught - unlike under the Trump administration - were not deported back to their home countries but were given a court date and released into the States.
Given the backlogs in the courts, this in effect has allowed illegals to live in the USA and access public benefits. Suffice to say, given its' geographical proximity to Mexico, this has put an enormous burden on the state of Texas. (A state which, perhaps not uncoincidentally, tends to vote against Mr. Biden's Democratic party in presidential elections.)
In response to this, Texas erected a border wall of barbed wire to block illegals from entering the USA through Texas. The Biden Administration objected to this and ordered the US border patrol to tear down the barbed fences. Texas blocked that action.
So the Biden administration went to the Supreme Court. The court, in a ruling that has been misunderstood, said that the Biden Administration had the authority to tear down the wall. However, it did NOT say that the wall was illegal or unconstitutional, so Texas blocked the Feds from taking action. (In addition, in a little noted side and an astonishing turn, the Federal border patrol sided with Texas and said, in effect, it would not obey the Biden Administration.)
So far, the Biden Administration, which gave last Friday as the deadline for removing the wall, has backed down and taken no action. Given the visuals of Federal agents removing a border wall to allow illegal immigration - not to mention the aforementioned refusal of the Federal border patrol to enforce the Biden order - it is expected that this is where things will stand for the moment.
There is a bill going through the Senate that would reform the immigration laws, but it is opposed in the House of Representatives. The Republican majority in that chamber arguing that existing law is sufficient, and that the problem is simply that Biden refuses to enforce existing law. (This latter is a view on which, I confess, I am not unsympathetic.)
This is where things stand. Likely the Biden administration will have to go back to the Supreme Court to get a ruling that goes beyond the existing one. Which, to repeat, said only that the Biden administration has the authority to remove the wall. What it did NOT say was that Texas was prohibiting from erecting the wall. Hence the current stalemate.
"The Republican majority in that chamber arguing that existing law is sufficient, and that the problem is simply that Biden refuses to enforce existing law. (This latter is a view on which, I confess, I am not unsympathetic.)"
The problem with changing laws, especially when control of Congress is so divided, is that poison pills and other very bad policies are routinely inserted into such laws - and they don't always have to be things related to the matter at hand. If, say, the Dems knew that the Repubs were definitely going to get a bill passed, and had widespread support for that from the population, they might agree to vote for it IF their amendment was added. That amendment might simply be money for a bridge in their state, or funding for something worthwhile, but it could ALSO be a law change that did something else that Repubs view as very bad. Once this amendment is added, then to get that law changed on the primary topic (border rules), they might have to accept something bad in another area. That's just the DC way of things.
By not changing laws that are really fine as they are, they aren't in any danger of some random law change causing serious problems later.
@MrOracle As you'll note, that is, as I said, a position with which I am not unsympathetic. However, as a man who has worked in DC - including on Capitol Hill - since the late 1980s, I also agree that DC tends to work that way. Albeit that ultimately I hold the American public responsible for that phenomena.
Maybe it is an Australianism wrt to self inflicted wounds. Essentially we all first try to understand the politics of another country in the frame work of our own country's politics and only do the harder yards of understanding if that doesn't seem to work.
US politics are important plus tend to replicate elsewhere, so those political views are of considerable interest to me.
Now I have seen three left-Labor Prime Ministers destroy themselves by uncontrolled migration. I think the current PM is becoming a dead man talking on what he has done in the same field. Australia is an immigrant nation as are the US & Canada. Immigration is foundational but we expect it to be managed. We like to give succor via humanitarian migration. But self-selected migration is fundamentally rejected
What I see, from afar, is a part of the US has a familiar view that immigration is fine if it is managed. But there also seems to be a view, the more the merrier - especially if it is not in my backyard. I can see advantages in lower labor costs and possibly votes and certainly moral superiority.
if you can say anything about the political dynamics and where my from afar view is deficient, I would greatly appreciate.
@RavVid My apologies, to whom were you addressing your question? Two other people, in addition to myself, responded here. So I am not sure who you were talking to, specifically.
Also, please clarify what you were asking.
Anyhow, I would be happy to try to answer if the question is addressed to me.
Texas is today thanks to many decades of strong economic growth one of the most successfully states in the union today. A powerhouse unrivaled in many respect, but one which a deep seated since of self and cultural Identity.
As thou of us who are natives or lived there know Texas has a very proud history dating from the Texas Revolution in 1836 when Texans proudly fought for their own independence and right to self-determination, thou the days when Texans rose their head among the nations of the world standing proudly among 2 mighty powers.
One of which was constantly trying to subvert them, before joining the other largely to get protection from the former.
Even still nearly 180 years later Texans still have a since of self and nationalism earned in blood during the days of the Texas Revolution and independence they never lost. They still proudly fly their Lone Star on an equal footing with the federal union Flag.
Thou most Texans still love the rest of theses united States, there remains a strong since of Texas Identity and heritage I think unlike any other state.
That is why among Texans you will find bipartisan support for for Texas sovereignty and identity among both Republicans and Democrats.
This song is actually about the Texas Revolution dating back to around that time :
If your referring to the current crisis, all I will say is Texas Joined the union mostly to get help protecting that same border. It s very ironic and angering that the Feds would actually undermine Texas border in this way.
"Get help protecting that same border"? Texans violated the agreements they made with the government of Mexico to allow them to settle the land in the first place. They refused to convert to Catholicism, refused to give up their slaves, and (hilariously, in light of current similar issues in the US today) refused to learn Spanish.
The Mexican government, seeking to restore order and free the illegally enslaved citizens of its country, marched up and continually whipped Texas's ass until the US government secretly came in to help, arming and training Houston's troops.
They also lost their "independence", which (insofar as it was the issue) means "right to enslave their fellow men" TWICE: you may have missed the second time they attempted to secede from their legitimate government, but it went even worse for them the second time.
I'm no fan of Biden's administration or policies, but historical revisionism isn't going to help you here.
@NamerOfStars You seem to be overlooking 80% of the story which starts with a general Civil War and rebellion across Mexico of which Texas was apart and not even the only part that succeeded in achieving independence.
Yucatán in the South of Mexico was as successful and only rejoined Mexico a decade later after the Mexican-American war of 1845. but on the way to Texas many other Mexican States also rebelled against Santa Anna's dictatorship, unfortunately they were brutally conquered by Santa Anna's army before he made it to Texas.
They bought Texas time thou to prepare, and while many Americans came to help Texas, most of the men in the Texas army who fought and died at the Alamo were Texans, some of whom had brothers conscripted in Santa Anna's army.
I won't deny that some Texans violated the agreement they made with Mexico, not all. Regardless contrary to leftist anti-American propaganda it clearly wasn't the instigating factor of the war, less none of the other Mexican states would not also have rebelled at the same time and for the same reason.
It's Texs, where cowboy-clad white goobers rule a state where there are more guns than people.
@handsomelad70 In science we define truth as something testable with results. What you called "goobers" have gotten far better results then the politicians in most of the other states going on for decades now.
So if you were interested in facts you would start to wonder if the "Goobers" are really the people running those other states into the ground.
If you expect anyone else to not be racist why don't you try not inserting your explicit racism into everything.
Texas is a parody of itself. A gun and one half per resident, a Governor who commits human rights violation re. border crossings , a horrific injustice system which locks up folk for piddling offenses, etc. The only good thing about Texas is its buxom cowgirls.
@handsomelad70 New York has a horrific injustice system, people go to Texas to be safe and free.
Texas are accustom to shooting invaders. So i think they are being remarkably restrained with regard to the current lot overrunning their lands. Regardless not one of them has any human right to be there, nor not be shot for their trespassing.
You're declaring everything you want to be a right does not mean we ever agreed to provide it.
Texans do indeed have a lot of guns, although only part of the population actually holds those guns an they usual y have more than one as its good to have options and backups. Different guns are good for different situations.
Texas has the second or third most reactionary U. S. state government. It is addicted to the electric chair, homophobia, misogyny and no little racism. (Lost of Texas girls are hot, though.)
@handsomelad70 There you go using big words like "reactionary" to describe the simple fact that not everyone wants to be your lab rat for every "novel" idea that you can think of forcing upon them.
A lot of people simply want to be left alone so that they can live their lives according to their own ideas rather than accommodating yours.
That said it is true we have been simply reacting for far too long to your assaults upon our rights. Assaults which represent abuses of our common goverment to the consistent end of usurping an ever larger domain of control over our lives from us. With the effect intended or otherwise of the destruction of our ever fewer remaining right.
That there has been a well documented pastern of this behavior forming a chain of actions over the last 100+ years only further illustrate the insatiability of acting against the means by which you carry out theses sultanas.
Call that 'reactionary' but it has always been the right of men to resent any injury no matter how beneficial it is to the one who caused it nor supposedly intentional if said intention does not lead to self-correction. It has been over a 100 years and we have not seen such self-correction, nor almost any evaluation of the countless "experiments" you have carried out upon us. So what fool would we be to expect you ever will abandon those repressive and destructive experiments new anymore than you have the old?
Indeed the time to stop reacting and throw off your means to assault us is long overdue.
Experiments like the Tuskegee Experiments carried out on black sharecroppers from 1932 to 1972 in which these poverty-stricken black men who lived under a terroristic government under which they could be murdered at a whim by even the meanest whites, were injected with syphilis and left untreated so the results of untreated STDs can be gleaned. Hopefully (but unlikely) that's what you mean. Oh, and I'm not surprised you can't correctly define "reactionary," given your being a product of the American mis-education system.
@handsomelad70 Yes that would be an example of a goverment an experment. Anther far more harmful one was the experiments on welfare and social security which have destroyed nearly all families including nearly all black families not just a few.
Nobody has looked at the cultural and demographic collapse over the last 80 years and recognized maybe taking grandparent out of the home and child rearing process was not a good idea?
They are being cancel cultured! Can't even defend their own borders!
Every one sides with the illegals who want a better life... When they really only bring drugs guns and crime!
But the poor people need to do what ever they want heavens forbid they get held accountable for doing a crime...
About 95% of U. S. crime is committed by people born-and-bred in America, but just keep accessing Fox Noise, White (I mean, One) America Network,4Chan and other white supremacist outlets, Rosey.
I like the fact that Texas' government will stand toe-to-toe against the Federal government, especially the "sleepy Joe" administration.
I wish Californians would think more like Texans.

I haven’t even checked up on it yet, trying to take a break from all the bullshit, lmao.
Whatever it is, I won’t be surprised, Texas is ALWAYS out of pocket😂
1. MS-13 is decapitating everyone for fun.
2. Texas said enough is enough.
3. Biden then bitched, because he needs MS-13 to win the next election. He can't win without foreign headhunting puppy-raping criminals.
4. So Biden demanded that Texas kill themselves so he can win.
5. Texas told Biden to go eat his own soiled underwear.
6. So now, we're looking at possibly the next Civil War.
7. Because while Texans are trying to put up barbed wire to keep out the headhunting sadists, the Feds are cutting it down in order to welcome the headhunting sadists and puppy rapists back in.
8. Meanwhile, MS-13 has also found a vampiric lust for the taste of the blood of Navajo, and loves stealing their reservation land for its evildoing purposes.
9. Texans want the Navajo to keep their land.
10. Biden "thinks" (though we all know Obama's the real shot-caller) that the Navajo are now an acceptable sacrifice.
11. So once again, we have Democrats calling for Red Man genocide, in order to use land bribery to get criminals to help them stay in power. We've come full circle right back to Andrew Jackson and the Trail of Tears.
12. Texas may have to seceded to survive. At least 25 states support this.
13. Civil War II may possibly destroy the DNC as we know it. There's no redemption for them if this happens.
Texas has a border with Mexico, it's a semi pupular border to cross.
After Trump left office, Biden did some things with the border and then the number of illegal crossings went up a lot. I'm not getting into that, you can Google it.
Texas says the border police aren't doing enough and that according to the constitution, the federal government is supposed to be responsible for their border. The government said "were doing just fine"
So then Texas put up barbed wire which somehow seemed to do better than the wall. Then the Biden administration came in and said "were taking down your barbed wite because it's in the border patrol agents way"
Texas then reminded them that the constitution also gives them the right to take their own measures to defend the border if the federal government won't do it. So the feds went to the Supreme Court, they said the feds have the right to "remove the wire" Texas is sorta saying come take it... Punk
If the feds come to take down the barbed wire, Texas is probably going to weigher keep putting up more or restrict entry which people are speculating whether that will escalate to violence.
There are a lot of things going on with Texas.
Texas has its own electric power grid. Unlike all other states, it doesn't connect to any other state. So when Texas has problems, like it has for the past couple years during cold, ice and snow, Texas has power outages.
NASA control center is in Houston. From there, all NASA space flights, including the International Space Station, are controlled.
Elon Musk's SpaceX spaceport is located in Boca Chica on the southern Texas coast. That's where the huge Starship, destined to take people to the Moon and to Mars, is launching from.
Then there's the border issue. Texas has put up razor wire fences along its border with Mexico, to make it more difficult for illegals to enter the country via Texas. The Biden administration has directed federal forces to remove these fences, and the Supreme Court has upheld that. Texas Governor Abbott has called out the National Guard (which is a misnomer because the National Guard is controlled by each state) to keep the fences up, or to rebuild them if they're torn down. Several other governors support him. It's a classic example of the Biden administration's weak border and immigration policies.
@AviatorTom
Is Biden's policy weak because he now claims to hold the opposite position he campaigned on and has been implementing?
Or
Is he weak because we assume he is telling the truth now and lying then and just really bad at his job?
Personally im not sure what Im more pissed off about, the fact that he has effectively pushed thou this invasion 5+ million people, or the fact that he is now trying to steal Texas State land without bothering to even try to pay for it, much less ask to get the State to ceded it for his policy proposes as Required By Article 1 Section 8 Clause 17.
I'm not really surprised about the criminal behavior of the federal politicians in black robes, they and their families being hand picked creatures of Washington D. C. rarely see a novel federal power they don't like, Constitution doesn't mean much more to them than the law does to any other criminal.
Very simply, the governor of Texas has decided that he can do anything he wants because he's the governor of Texas. He has forgotten that he is subject to the laws of the United States which are administered by the federal government. He was ordered by the supreme Court to allow the border control access to all the illegal barbed wire he put up as a political statement at the border and further to allow the border control to remove wire in certain places. If not all of the wire. He doesn't want to do that, not because he cares that much about the immigration problem but that he cares about his political image and doesn't want to give the impression that he isn't loyal to Donald Trump who is the one who raised all of these issues about immigrants in the first place. This will not end well for the governor of Texas if he keeps this up.
The whole alleged immigration problem is essentially a phony one. Donald Trump started this as a way of providing his followers with another scapegoat.
So then if there is no issue why not let him keep the razor wire?
It is the only border state run by republicans so it is the only border state willing to pretend it is having a problem with its border and to create problems whenever possible to have something to campaign on. It is now somewhat widely known that republicans prefer not to fix our border issues because they don't want to lose a critical campaign narrative. And because it is known they have to be all the more extreme to make it seem like they are serious. So, they are basically trying to say this could be how the next Civil War starts to cover up how they admitted they have no intention of fixing the problem.
The Governor of Texas is protecting his state's Constitutional Rights to defend against Invasion, by way of securing the border with Concertina Wire and river barriers because the corrupt, demented President is willfully violating his Oath Of Office to defend the country and uphold its laws by way of attempting to remove them. He may send troops to Texas to force his will on Texas but he will fail. Federal Troops will not fire on common citizens.
President Biden knows he will not be re-elected and is is attempting to wreck the country as much as he can before the election. Hopefully Democrats will dissuade his replacement, Mike Obama from being elected. Civil War approaches. Buy guns and ammo.
President Biden and his Dept of Homeland Security have opened the southern border and allowed millions of illegal aliens to enter the Us in violations of federal laws. The border states like Texas and Arizona have demanded that Biden do his job and secure the border like President Trump did. He refuses so Texas Governor Abbott had installed over 30 miles of razor wire to try and keep them out. Hr also posted the National Guard at the border to turn back the flow of the lawbreakers. Biden vows he will cut the razor wire and will confront the National Guard and send the Border Patrol not to turn back the criminals but to help them into the country and set them up with welfare benefits.
There are 25 governors from other states that will support Texas with National Guard troops and equipment. This could be the start of Civil War.
In brief: the US immigration laws suck, and have for quite a while; it's very difficult to legally immigrate to this country. You're essentially looking at spending tens of thousands of dollars and waiting most of a decade for a roll of the dice. Unfortunately, both parties have vested interests in not reforming those laws, above and beyond the difficulties in getting the other side to agree to their changes.
Since those laws are on the federal level, the States can't supersede them, and a conflict is breaking out between the two ideologies.
The U. S. government is failing to perform its duty per the constitution and to enforce the border laws and to protect the country from foreign invasion. Under the current leadership the country has just given up on even having a border or to block unlawful immigration on any levels. Millions of strangers have just wandered into the country over the last few years.
Texas is enacting an ability to protect itself vis the Federalist Papers and legal maneuvers to attempt to protect itself from foreign invasion and enacting some barriers and border blockages.
The U. S. government is suing basically stating not only will we not uphold our responsibility to guard the countries border but we decree it is unlawful for anyone else to protect the border either.
So basically the government Greg Abbott started using his force to secure the borders including blocking out migrants and Federal Agents.. Abbott is a Republican.. The Democrats in the state had a problem with it so they got Joe Biden backed but the Federal Court to issue a cease and desist letter to the governor to stop blocking the border..
The Governor continued to do his business on blocking the border and ignored the letter saying that he went to Joe Biden multiple times to do something about the Border.. That also it's his constitutional right to protect the border.. So now we have that situation on toe..
The Governor Greg Abbott..***
Also Governor decided that he's going to build his own wall in spite of what the Federal Government says..
@Joshydavid25
Some democrats have a problem with it not all. The park in question was Texas State property they had every right to close it down and criminalize access, as every state in the Union regularly does.
If the feds require access to the land, the legal procedure was to buy it from the state, not simply take it violating the 5th amendment.
If the Feds wanted to exclude state sovereign authority to make laws on the land such as the no trespassing law. The only legal procedure is written in Article 1 Section 8 clause 10.
The Feds did neither, and as such Joe's demand to take the land and destroy Texas property to aid the criminal foreign invaders amounts to mere thief.
@monorprise Yes sir, 💯..
The feds are trying to impose their will on Texas, just like they try to impose their will everywhere else in the world. Texas is ignoring the fed's bullshit, like any decent state should. The feds don't like it, and Texas is saying they don't give a shit what the feds like.
So basically Texas wants to erect barriers along its border. The federal government said they can’t. Texas is now telling the federal government to go fuck itself. On the one hand, it’s totally illegal. On the other hand, this is one of those situations where one could make a reasonable case that the law is wrong.
Why is it illegal to secure it's border? With a barrier?
Lots of razor wire here no one
Makes people trespass less!
Supremacy clause. The all powerful bureaucrats in Washington tell you that you are not allowed to secure your border, and as of 1865 they have the last word on any issue.
Simple answer. We are being invaded. The senile asshole in Washington says he cannot do anything about it until he gets money to close the border. He forgets he opened the border by mandate he can close it again by mandate. NO MONEY NEEDED!!! He can finish the border wall at no cost to him because it is already paid for in full by previous president but the senile old man in Washington he stopped it by mandate. along with the other 900 other mandates in his AMERICA LAST.
Our federal government is refusing to protect the border from illegal migrants entering the country illegally.
The governor of Texas (biggest state on the southern making half the border) is deciding to enforce border control.
This is causing tension between the federal government and Texas.
Lot to unpack. Anything particular?
We have probably the most whorish Republican leaders to big business. The most poorest lower class, most severe cutbacks to Medicaid and food stamps. Becuase of course tax cuts have to be “paid for”…which they still aren’t.
Even with our prostituting to businesses we only manage to break even with amount of federal money coming in. Unlike Cali or Ny who has a 10:1 ratio.
They are trying to save the United States from being destroyed by mumbling bumbling biden, secretly controlled by oBlahma and the evil left demonic rats who are hell bent on destroying the country.
Texas wants to stop the illegal invasion by putting up fences and razor wire while the Biden administration wants to cut the wire, let them all in, and give them our taxpayer dollars. I hope Texas doesn't back down and tells Biden to go fuck himself.
Brace to see then withdraw from the union if Biden keeps pushing his "open border" bullshit
Texas build a wall at their border with Mexico and put their troops there. US border patrol sought to enter the area they built the wall and were denied entry.
That question is pretty vague. What do you want to know specifically?
It’s a very complicated question to answer, their mixed opinions about it
I think it’s something you would have to see for yourself
There's nothing special going on.
They're just being the typical Texas. Blowhards
With unauthorized immigration?
@julie4 Star base for spacex
Open boarders is what. Population replacement.
