Oh the horrors of a corporatist uniparty! According to the LA Times, Hunter has refused to testify; not that the Republicans refuse to let him. I'm sure they're probably all on the gravy train too.

@goaded I did totally miss that, actually. Is that what brought up that story I saw about Hunter's lawyer? I have had a chaotic last few months.

I'm not sure that's true... The way y'all were kicking and screaming "election interference" when Trump suggested that the Ukrainians investigate him a year before the election season began tells a very different story.

And how many Trump campaigners and WH staffers went to jail for coordinating with Russia?

      Reply
    • ProbablyClueless

Well, what the evidence showed was that, despite Russian attempts to infiltrate the Trump campaign, that alleged coordination didn't occur.

An investigation into Hunter's involvement with Ukraine is totally different situation, because there's 100% categorically no doubt that Hunter was a part of Burisma, and there's 100% categorically no doubt that he got that job as a result of being Joe Biden's son. There's also 100% categorically no doubt that Joe used his position as VP to obstruct prior Ukrainian investigations into Hunter because he has expressly stated that that was exactly what he did. The only thing that's up for debate is whether Hunter's position at Burisma was used to influence Joe's decision-making.

Which... if the Democrats' claim is that an investigation into Joe's son before the election even began was somehow going to interfere with Joe's ability to get elected... I think the Conservatives are raising a very reasonable question. If Hunter was such a competent lawyer in his own right and Joe wasn't getting paid off through Hunter's connection with Burisma; why WOULD investigating Hunter interfere with Joe's election journey at all?

No…lol…there were dozens of convictions based on evidence of Russian coordination. Russia didn’t hack the presidency (it tried) and Trump won fair and square…but dozens went to jail.

I said "think," not "believe." The people that went to jail are people that Trump got rid of in short order after discovering their activities. It does nothing to strengthen your claim; that's why I'm laughing at you. If you think the Trump investigation was legitimate, you also have to think the Hunter investigation is legitimate.

LMFAO! They were convicted for protecting Trump, and pardoned or had their sentences commuted by him! There were something like 10 separate cases of Trump himself obstructing the Mueller investigation, there were multiple documented contacts between Trump's cronies and Russian intelligence, including passing on internal campaign documents that could be used to target election interference where it would be most effective.

Trump has repeatedly pressured people to lie for him, including phone calls to Ukraine to announce a non-existent investigation into now-President Biden, Raffensperger to pretend the election he oversaw wasn't above board, and Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen to pretend the DoJ was investigating the 2020 election ("Just say the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the R. Congressmen").

@goaded Another wunderkind! 🤣 God, don't you people learn? If you don't believe me, just read the Mueller report. The investigation found very distinctly, very clearly, and it very expressly states that no cause for arrests existed for the central purpose of the investigation; to determine whether the Trump Campaign and White House was colluding with Russia.

Have a good week, my friend.

We have read it, or at least good parts of it. There were two parts to the report; part one was about Russian interference in the election and the Trump campaign's coordination with it, and part two was about the obstruction of the investigation by Trump and others.

There would have been no reason for the second part if there was nothing to the first part, which found at least 140 contacts between Trump or 18 of his associates with Russian nationals and WikiLeaks, or their intermediaries.

One thing even you can't deny: the Trump campaign did less than nothing to stop Russia interfering in the 2016 election.

@goaded I actually would deny that. I think the overwhelming weight of the evidence has pretty clearly shown that the Trump campaign's activities generally sought to reduce Russian influence by getting rid of compromised people as they discovered them. The Clinton campaign did far more damage and actually used doctored evidence to exacerbate any influence the Russians might have had.

And considering the close ties between the Biden family and the Russians, established by Hunter's involvement in Burisma, it really seems like the Democrats in this equation are more connected with the Russians than anyone on Trump's side of things.
