The chain "Buffalo Wild Wings" (BWW) is not from Buffalo. It's from Ohio and started by two guys from Buffalo who missed Buffalo wings and another Buffalo favorite, "Beef On Weck" (*) which is excellent. BWW is now based out of Atlanta. BWW hasn't done beef-on-weck in a long time.

"Buffalo wings" were created in Buffalo in 1964 at The Anchor Bar.
However, the people in Buffalo say this:
"The tourists get their wings at The Anchor Bar, but the locals get their wings at Duff's."

Duff's is very good. Whenever I am in town long enough and Duff's is open, I am there.

(*) Beef on weck is sort of like an Arby's roast beef sandwich except the roll is a Kimmelweck roll. These rolls are very salty and pretty much have to be eaten soon after they are made.

Oh, I didn't realize these alternative possibilities. Still, if we're referring not to the deepest origins of the recipe, but the name of the dish, then it makes sense to me that it got its name from the city.
