Think of it as Taiwan being a massive unsinkable aircraft carrier/battleship parked outside the coast of China that also happens to make the best computer chips in the world and you are mostly there on understanding Taiwans position from USAs point of view.

For China to take control over Taiwan could significantly affect regional power dynamics in the region which the U. S. is worried about. Most importantly, like you pointed out, It is home to TSMC, the world’s largest and most advanced semiconductor manufacturer. The U. S. has significant economic ties with Taiwan and relies on its technology for various industries.

Oh wow, you mean like since end WW2, Korean War, the US has not defended Taiwan and it’s only Now that some old President does it.
