I'm allergic to optimism. I like looking for ways to be positive now. If someone said that to me, I wouldn't make a big deal over it though. I might just say like, "Cheers!"

But I really think optimism is a bad way to look at things since it makes prophecies of the future that might not come true and that might seriously disappoint people and turn them into cynics or pessimists.

So I'm much more into positive realism: "Glass is half full," not, "Don't worry, someone will buy you another drink in the future."

The same as "walk it off" or "rub some dirt on it." It means it is not that big of deal - you will get past it, so you do exactly that.

I would annoyed if it were used in a condescending way for a situation that it doesn't fit unless it is a joke.
