We've been doing it here in Japan since we were kids in the 80s and I think long before that as well. I never thought to look into it until now.
I was trying to search to see if people from any other cultures did it widely as we do here and I can't find any.
That said, the peace sign originated in favor of the disarmament of nuclear weapons. Maybe Japanese doubled down on the peace sign since they'd be especially interested in that after the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
That is actually quite interesting, that is some fascinating background on the possibilities of how it maybe have formed 🤔
That and Japanese tend to strike poses quite flamboyantly, especially girls. Maybe it's just that. 😅
Yea for the most part double peace sign seems to be their go to pose lmao
Supposedly the peace sign originated during the battle of Agincourt in 1415. The English Longbowman were so feared by the French that when they captured one they would cut off his fingers so he couldn't pull a bow anymore. So as a result the English bowman would put 2 fingers up to taunt the French to show they had thier fingers
But there's also another story to that. I guess longbow's were made largely from the wood of the Yew tree. So there's a story that they would also show thier middle finger and say "I still got my finger I can still PLUCK YEW". And that is today where we get the middle finger today when we flip someone off to say "F*** You"!
I don't know if that story is complete b. s. but I always like telling it.🤣
i think i heard americans created it and was trendy with young people in western countries in like the 80s or something. japanese people adopted it late and kept using it way way after the trend died (and still use it to this day) and they where the ones who spread it to other Asian countries
Lol.

I think they are all imitating Mr. Ringo Starr!
Or Dr. Evil! :-D
What's wrong with it? We've been doing it here since at least the `60's! Even Pres. Nixon did it a lot! I seem to recall Jimmy Carter doing it, too.
The only time I have seeing girls use that (one-handed) sign, it was to indicate "vagina". :-)
I don't know but I just like doing it to be cute ✌🏻☺️✌🏻
I don't know WTF is up with that. When I went to Disneyland with my friend from Japan he was embarrassed by the Japanese tourists all posing like that.
no they didn't create it
they just started to use it
I believe Winston Churchill only did the Victory Sign with one hand
