What’s the first thing you think when someone says they’re a libertarian?

Hard telling nowadays. Modern self-proclaimed libertarians are basically conservative ex-Republicans who got fed up with the religious fanatics who started getting much much say in the Republican Party.

Politically they tend to be even more conservative than Republicans. On moral issues, they tend to be more liberal. But realistically, the moral issues don't matter, since the government has little to do with moral issues. In other words, in the ways that matter politically, they are very conservative.

Socially or economically? I drank the Ayn Rand Kool-Aid when I was 16. Works great if everyone has their own planet. Also completely ignores the enormous part luck plays in our wealth and general welfare. I want to live in a nation where everyone has a decent life, and I'm willing to pay taxes to help others.

While the libertarians have a good philosophy overall, their party is garbage and will never succeed because they can't stop the "no true scotsman" fallacy
