Generally, yes. However, as G. K. Chesterton said, "The purpose of an open mind, like an open mouth, is to close it down again upon something hard."

Open mindedness does not mean the abandonment of all principles and knowledge when studying a question. Rather, it means being able to look at the available data - be it moral, material or what have you - and contextualizing it within the framework of what we already know.

What we learn then may modify our existing understanding or - rarely - change it outright. This then leading to new conclusions about a subject but within a broader historical understanding.

For example, what has come to be called "wokeism" is case of "open mindedness" taken out of context. It seeks, in the case of human sexuality, to wipe away what we know of human nature, psychology and biology to replace it with a flat out simple rule.

So we let men call themselves women and run in female athletic competitions. This in the name of open mindedness toward those who claim that their sexuality is a function not of biology, psychology and sociology, but rather of what the individual chooses his/her sexuality to be.

Sexuality then becomes not an aspect of a broader reality, but rather a tabula rasa upon which each individual writes whatever they like. This is all very tolerant - and also highly destructive. Its' net effect not just being to put men in women's athletic competitions - to the detriment of the latter - but to make human life mere raw material.

Hence, puberty blockers and gender surgery and all the rest. Thus does open mindedness, divorced from broader context, conduce to making man not tolerant and just, but mere raw material to be manipulated and, if necessary, exterminated.

Thus I voted "Open minded," but I do so with the understanding that open mindedness means a willingness to contextualize data. Not simply a refusal to draw conclusions based in what we already know.

Sure. That doesn't mean I'm willing to consider the possibility of unlikely things, though - not that I'm unwilling either but it strikes me as a waste of time.

In any case I am more than happy to adjust my assumptions on what is likely or unlikely based on evidence. I'm not wild about indulging in hypotheticals. That's certianly a trick to make naivete out to be a virtue by calling it open mnded.

I'm open minded but very stubborn. It takes a lot to get me to change my mind but especially lately I have been more open minded. Also having the grace to change my mind and say you're right I'm wrong has been very important, though I still usually think I'm right for the most part

Every maga-dolt and Republican should have chose 2 or 3, but I'm sure they didn't. I'm open-minded to things that have a modicum of sense or possibility, not nonsense. For example, if you're going to try and prove to me that the Earth is flat, or that I should prove to YOU that it's not, go fuck yourself and waste somebody else's time. LOL

I'm very open minded. I think much different than most of society. Most people from my experience are only with things related to them somehow but I just see things from different perspectives
