There's already ethical hackers doing illegal stuff to turn in bad people vigilante style. Let's say they do go to trial for illegally getting information on a pedophilia what jury is going to convict?

It's when you fuck up and make a mistake is when you get thrown under the bus. You're not supposed to do it. You did a piss job at doing it, and people got hurt. You're fucked.

No. I think a lot of criminals would start calling themselves a "punisher" in an attempt to deflect attention from the obvious fact that they were just doing the same gratuitous violence as every other violent criminal and for the exact same reasons.
