a real world war is impossible... it only happened because germany had colonies!

in world war one the allies captured german colonies in a few months. ending the world part of the world war quickly.

then the rest, was in between u. s. east coast -40° w. to 40° e. , iraq east border, not world.

similarly, from 1937 japan had an isolated war with China while nazi had an isolated war in Europe.

it became world war when japan pulled u. s into the war making world wide alliances. u. s. with ussr' against japan and germany.

now that u. s. is aligned with germany nato and japan pato' a world war is impossible.

similarly a nuclear war with hydrogen bombs is impossible because nobody would start because even if they "won", they would have nothing to rule in the end, so wouldn't start.

World War 3 started immediately after World War 2. It has just been a war of misinformation and economic dominance - so named the "cold war." NATO was formed because democracy has the disadvantage of being very slow to judge and slow to act - necessary to ensure the entire population gets a say. And so democracies make up for that disadvantage by maintaining an advantage in numbers. But the end result is democracy versus dictatorship, which is the same thing world War 2 was about..

What we think of as world wars, like the ones in the past, are highly unlikely to happen again. Wars are not fought that way any more. By the time all the countries got mobilized, and got millions of troops in place, the outcome would have already been determined. I'm not even talking about nukes, but conventional weapons.

Personally I think the biggest danger of an all out modern war will come from the Internet. It's a disaster waiting to happen. A hostile country could completely shut down the economy and cause complete chaos through the Internet. I have no doubt that all modern countries have such contingency plans in place.

That is definitely not true. Russia has seen a massive increase in financial sectors due to the war. Wars are still among the highest profit events for humanity. Until such time as space travel and asteroid mining becomes commonplace war will be one of the highest grossing events. Also humanity is drawing to a close on our various advancements reality is we will need some event to throw us into the next stage of advancements. That doesn't have to be war but it is one of the fastest

Second reality is that russia can end the war anytime they choose. Again not a great reality but it is what it is. Now when it comes to Financials russia has not lost nearly as much money as claimed. Not only that but the economic sanctions and trade embargoes etc that were meant to crash the financial sector completely failed. That alone should show the reality of war. It leads to a massive influx of funds

Something that starts small or just gets out of hand, or a country such as Russia / China flexing elsewhere.

for example, the Russians moved some of their Pacific fleet to the Red Sea area, these could in ‘Theory’ carry out an enforced no fly zone over Gaza and shoot down any Israeli aircraft. What happens then? Russia takes out a few aircraft, would Israel really kick off with Russia? Would anyone actually react?
