In Georgia we kiss on the cheek and hug,
If that’s someone in a professional settings - We just shake hands.

We do a bow here!
I have an Italian colleague though who kisses me on both cheeks. There's a funny story one time where we were both staying at a hotel in the US. So when I arrived at the hotel with luggage after long flight from Narita to LAX, he greeted me with a deep hug and kiss on both cheeks and I felt his whiskers along my face.
Then all the staff were looking at us funny. And he was so oblivious to it that as they showed him to the room, he asked me along and laid down on the bed and asked me to lay down on the bed too. And the woman who worked at the hotel was looking at us all funny and I was trying to ignore it. Ah well, screw it.
He's a completely heterosexual guy but it's like it's so in his culture to be so friendly to guys that he didn't realize why everyone was giving us funny looks. Or maybe I was too self-conscious lacking this culture but they were genuinely looking at us so weirdly; I'm pretty sure that wasn't a part of my imagination.
But I think it's really nice when we do that. I wish all cultures did that.
Our way here in Japan is so lacking in affection to just bow to each other. I don't like the firm handshake way of Americans that I learned which is like squeeze a guy's hand so hard short of hurting him like, "I'm such a confident guy! Look at me. My grip strength is so good! I can lift giant rocks with one hand!" That's even more bullshit in my opinion even though I've learned to navigate it.
The Italian way is really nice in my opinion.
In my original area:
You lock the door, and close the curtains to strangers.
For people you know: get them drunk with "Schnapps" - that's some clear booze.
While the stereotypical greeting is 'g'day mate', you almost never hear it. A stranger isn't your mate, you have to forge the mateship first.
Initial greetings: "Oh, g'day! What's your name?"
Mateship greetings: "Aye, you keeping your head down?", "How's it going, mate?"
Close friend greetings: "Oi cunt!"
You go from a gday to a mate to the c-word, basically. I don't think Aussies are too touchy-feely when we're friends. We kind of just... slightly nod to each other when we meet.
I went to Australia in 2008. I was bummed that only one person said "g'day" to me. I had to ask someone at the airport on my way out to say "g'day, mate." I'll bet he was thinking "stupid Yanks..."
Yeah foreigners and tourists say it frequently 😭 it's a little funny
Well I have dual citizenship, but in the US it’s usually just “hi how are you?” or “how’s your day going?” or if you’re from where I live, a quick look with a friendly smile is enough.
However, in Japan (that’s the other part of my dual citizenship. I was able to get dual citizenship because my mom is a citizen of Japan but my dad isn’t), in my experience it depends on the time of day, if the person is older or younger than you, that kind of stuff.

it depends on who I greet :D
my friends are fans of hugging, as well as my family members, and I don't have a problem with physical contact with people I know
the rest of the world is greeted by
* hand wave (people I know but not work with),
* handshake - people at work or business related
* or just smile - people I don't know
kissing is reserved for this one man and small kids, who demand a peck on the cheek :D
It happens! Here's the thing: everyone's different, but there are ways to redirect your thoughts. Try distracting yourself with hobbies, exercise, or hanging out with friends. If you're online too much, take a break! Sometimes reading a book or listening to music can be a good reset too. The key is to find healthy outlets for your energy.
It depends on the degree of familiarity. Friends would say "s'mae" meaning "how are things" or just "hi"
More formally we refer to the time of day "bore da" good morning and so on.
In the North they'll often use "iawn cont" which is literally "OK cunt."
Well Canada is a huge country, so I think slang greetings vary depending on what part of the country you’re in. But more formally it’s always something like “Hello” or “Nice to meet you” with a handshake, depending on the setting.
There are so many ways in the US. Where I am, it's usually just a polite "hello". Depending on whom you're greeting, it could be a hug or just a handshake.
Slavik/Balkan way 3 kisses on the cheek for the opposite sex, as for the same sex (men) a firm handshake.
ever since covid we started the "fists bump" like knuckle up! in the new matrix film.
From New York here. It's not a different country... It's a different planet. Usually goes like this: "I'm dead. How the fuck are you? Dead ass it's been so long!"
In the US, there is no standard greeting. Many people will say Hi or Hello and offer their hand to shake.
A hug or a wave or a kiss on two cheeks it really depends on how close you are with the other person.
I’m from New York and we notably don’t greet eachother, lol. I’m from the city but other parts are more friendly than others, but in The Bronx, you will get looked at like you have two heads to even say “good morning” to a stranger. 🤷🏻♀️
This should demonstrate it:
https://www.youtube.com/embed/sihBO2Q2QdYDumela and/ or a handshake. When greeting an elder, you bow slightly
Depends.
Mothers/grandmothers- hug or kiss on the cheek.
Women-handshake /hug
Men-firm handshake.
1st time meeting /professional setting-handshake, firm if it a man, softer if it a woman
When it's casual it's often by hugs. And professional it's often hand shakes.
"Hey, what's up?"
I try to be creative with replies.
Shake hands in professional settings or ones where you're meeting someone new. Hug for people you're really close to
Depends on the context of the greeting. You greeting a friend differently than a business partner etc.
Sup'
Which I hate. Went out with the 90s. Family we hug, close friends either a hug or shoulder bump with hand shake. Everyone else just plain hello; how you doing.
