What is this shit? Why are people equating the Holocaust with what Stalin did? Yeah, I know Stalin killed more people. But did you know that Hitler killed 95% of Jews in the area? How is that the same? One is a clear genocide.

It just frustrates me because an arab friend of mine keeps repeating Holocaust denying talking points and this false equivalency is one of them. I don't see a lot of information about this on the internet and I want to load up so I can shred this bullshit.

It's important to know that Arabic people are bombarded by antisemitic propaganda from a young age (TV, newspaper, society...). I couldn't believe the amount myself, till I saw a comprehensive JDL documentation about it. The more educated ones show it by wanting to ask "questions", the regular peasants show it by blaming practically every banana peel they slipped on onto "the Jews". Part of this whole mess is to normalize the Holocaust and partly question, partly equate it with other genocides. It's absolutely frustrating and to counter it you would constantly have to argue and educate on university lecture level to get at least somewhat through.

Hitler made his intentions very clear. You can say 95 percent this and however many people killed that, he said several times, many different ways and wrote a book explaining it: he's doing this to kill jews and ultimately create a master race.

Stalin, maybe he has similar ideas, but his intentions seemed to be much more political.

Either way, they were both carrying out terrible plans.

We can argue about the why but if you can't immediately say what they did was wrong then it's tough for me to see the conversation as worthwhile because the other person is obviously brainwashed or just sick in the head.
