Was Capitol rioter Ashli Babbitt a heroic patriot or a violent criminal?

On January 6, 2021, Ashli Babbitt was fatally shot during an attack on the United States Capitol. She was part of a crowd of supporters of then U. S. president Donald Trump who breached the United States Capitol building seeking to overturn his defeat in the 2020 presidential election.

Babbitt's attempt to climb through a shattered window beside a barricaded door into the Speaker's Lobby was thwarted when she was shot in the left shoulder by a United States Capitol Police officer (USCP). After an emergency response team administered aid, Babbitt was transported to Washington Hospital Center, where she died. The USCP deemed the shooting was "lawful and within Department policy" and "potentially saved Members (of Congress) and staff from serious injury and possible death"

The definition of a criminal is someone who commits a crime. What she did was a crime so "technically" she is a criminal.

@loveslongnails I wanted to make the point that we're a country of laws. Our assumption of innocence provides important protections. She would have enjoyed competent legal representation at trial, would have presented a defense and (by some miracle) possibly could have been found innocent.

Without debating gun laws, I'm sure she was in violation of many by having the gun, pointing it in a threatening manner and so on. There's no need to wait for her to discharge the weapon. Fortunately, the USCP officer didn't wait.

Everyone knew the EC vote, but until the certification happens (normally a formality), the election isn't over.

If enough lawmakers had been willing or scared enough to vote to reject a few states' votes, the House would have got to vote on a one vote per state basis to determine the president. The same would have happened if Pence had done what Trump asked him to and simply refused to count some of the states' votes (based on the fake electors). It may well also have happened had the count not taken place at all (if Pence "disappeared", say).

Reportedly, senators were discussing the danger of their families being targetted if they voted to convict Trump for Jan 6.

Violence should have no part in elections. The threat of violence shouldn't either, but it's become commonplace since Trump came to power.

Nobody ever found out what was in those boxes that were dragged out after everyone was sent home.
Nobody was ever charged with violating a court order for wiping the data off those voting machines.
Nobody ever wondered just how you can have more ballots than you have registered voters. It did not happen in just one district but a few. It was just dismissed as a "mathematical abnormality".
Nobody, even many democrats believe that there was not widespread fraud in the 2020 election.

You can't rely on good faith any more, either. 147 Republican lawmakers voted without evidence to reject some states' electoral college votes. Texas tried to cancel the results in other states. There are many scenarios where power can be abused (for example, refusing to seat Democratic representatives in the House in order to maintain a Republican majority and therefore Speaker to take over from the current president on Jan 20th).
