They have to, at least in some form. That said, Israel made a major mistake in their retaliation and is offering Iran a diplomatic homerun right now if they take the high road and pretends to be the bigger man. As such if Iran plays this right then they would do either some minor symbolic retaliation or otherwise get a proxy group to do it for them and keep their own hands clean because right now they are looking great from an international standpoint where as Israel has completely trashed its reputation.

Iran now realizes that the anti missile/drone systems provided to Israel by the USA actually work, and the anti-missile defenses that Russia provided to Iran are ineffective. It would be a lost cause at this point for Iran to try to go to war with Israel.

Also, because of the new knowledge of the ineffectiveness of Russia's anti missile systems, Russia and China may be less brave in the near future since they know the USA could bomb them, but their own missiles would be defeated.

You have read into the completely wrong things. Iran orchestrated its attack in such a way that it would be intercepted. They did everything to make it easy for Israel from flying them long and slow to giving them forewarning that the attack was coming with exactly the drones and missiles they used.

It was a shrewd calculated political move and it worked. Iran did not get any blame for throwing a massive attack at Israel simply because it did not hit, but at the same time they DID throw that attack and everyone knows they could have made it virtually impossible to stop with anti-air defenses.

At the same time we have Israels counter attack which lacked all the political nuance that Iran used. It resulted in basically no damage except to the reputation of Israel because unlike Irans attack which were made to fail, this one actually hit to some degree. Right now Iran is probably pretty happy that they provoked Israel to make yet another diplomatic mistake. The question is simply how Iran wants to capitalize on this victory because there are a few ways this could go.

Either way, USA is more or less ready to abandon Israel at this point. They are not even really on speaking terms anymore judging by the fact that Israel keeps doing things without telling the white house.

Unlikely it would go anywhere because all the islamic neighbors of iran isn't showing any support and if anything more of them will stand behind Israel over iran or the palestinians.

Nope, Iran uses proxy forces mostly. AKA Terrorists. Remember how Hamas raided Israel, killed and raped and took a bunch of hostages which resulted in this mess? That was possibly planned and supplied by Iran and that is the sort of things Iran specializes in.

@Syntosi their primary proxies of hamas, hezbollah and houthis are mostly spent forces at this time with very limited strike capabilities.

I would say the opposite. Because of Israels attack into the Gaza strip the public and monetary support for Hamas has skyrocketed. Likewise the Houthi rebels managed to grab the spotlight by attacking shipping for a little while which made them super popular as well etc..

Terrorists are kind of like a popularity campaign with violence. You expend materials and supporters to grab the headline which you then use to recruit new supporters and gain new support. Hamas is currently the number 1 terrorist group in the world. They will regrow and expand beyond what they used to be. Bombing them more is not going to change this.
