There are numerous articles claiming a huge pay gap for Caitlin Clark and other WNBA players. Are the claims there is a WNBA pay gap valid?

Caitlin Clark was selected No. 1 overall in the 2024 WNBA draft. Clark, along with other top rookies including Cameron Brink, Kamilla Cardoso, and Rickea Jackson, is tied for the highest female rookie salary, estimated to make $76,535 in her first season — approximately $338,000 over four years, per the WNBA’s collective bargaining agreement — according to Sport Trac.

Compared to their male counterparts, most NBA players make over 100 times what the new women’s players will make, including rookie Victor Wembanyama, the No. 1 NBA draft pick last year, whose 2023-24 season salary was more than $12 million.

The pay disparity has been a longstanding challenge in the women’s league for years.

“It’s because of fans’ lack of interest. Not watching, not buying products, not buying tickets. That’s why we are where we are right now,” Christine Brennan, USA Today columnist and an ABC News contributor, told ABC’s Good Morning America.

Because they are basketball players they have similar duties. Does that imply they should be receive the same pay? If so, since the manager of Tom's BBQ and the CEO of Walmart have similar position, should they receive equal pay?

Women are not advacating to close the pay gap in modeling and porn actors, In both, women earn substanally more than men.

There's no pay gap. Its very simple. Demand = pay. You bring in more money, you get paid more money. Thats how all jobs work, especially entertainment and sports businesses like the WNBA and NBA

Fun fact, the WNBA makes such little money that the NBA literally has to subsidize it and fund it with its own pocket just to help it stay afloat. So if anything, WNBA players are actually overpaid

If you want WNBA Players to be paid more, go to their games and buy all their tickets and jerseys and all that. There's no pay gap, dont be delusional

Your performance draws fewer people and you negotiate less aggressively; why on Earth SHOULD you be paid the same? If your organization makes less money, it can't afford to pay you as much. This is not rocket science.

And of course, it's the fans' fault for not buying what you're selling. Because the universe is inherently fair, so any disparity must logically be the result of discrimination.

They actually can play in the NBA. there's no rule or policy that prohibits women from playing in the NBA. Its not the MNBA. Howeber no team will draft or sign a female player because they are biologically and skillwise at a disadvantage to male players. Its just how it is

Would you expect a Squash player to be paid the same as a Tennis player? No. Not because they're not as professional, but no one watches Squash compared to interest in Tennis.

NBA players do get paid more then WNBA players, but it has nothing to do with sexism and everything to do with NBA being more popular and profitable. I agree with Ronda, the amount an athlete earns should be proportional to how much money they bring in, and currently, NBA players bring in way more money then WNBA players.
