What would it take to get you to leave the City and live in the country?

What would it take to get you to leave the City and live in the country town of Ideally less than a few thousand?

We humans never evolved to live in a city, and as such nearly every large city in history has been a population sink. Which basically means they depended entirely upon the country to sustain themselfs with everything from food, to raw materials and or people (as they don't even reproduce).

As such living in a city is really killing your family over the long run.

Which begs the question why did we move to the city and what is keeping us from going back?

If we're going to give up things that we didn't evolve to do, we'll need to leave behind (among many, MANY other things) the internet, glasses, CPAP machines, reaching age 40 with more than a dozen teeth left, and reliably reaching age 50 at all. Cataclysmic brain damage in an exceedingly blurry world means I'll be HAPPY to die, but I doubt the same will be true of the rest of you.

Also, good luck coordinating the transportation of the resources you'll need to sustain yourselves out in the country in anything beyond subsistence without the cities- to say nothing of the communication, electrical, and water grids you'll need to survive.

You don't sound like someone who has ever lived outside the city if you think you can't get what you need in the country.

Its harder to get anywhere, there are fewer people to deal with and generally you need to behave because everyone knows everybody. A fact that is kind of what i am referring to in regard to the social environment for which we evolved.

But at the same time there is for that reason also a sense of support and community you won't get in the city.

The technological innovations that urbanizes enjoy nonetheless are almost all available to rural fokes.

A slightly more beneficial wage rate, tax rate, and cost of living

Really? A house in the country cost a fraction of what it does in the city. It's the availability and diversity of jobs as as a female poster pointed out that is the real issue.

There again theses are problems which in no small part can be mitigated with modern technology just like the access issue. It is the in person stuff that's going to be a problem.

Regardless the alternative is inevitable collapce of your family and eventually your civilization down the drain that is every city ever.

I live in the country and traditionally the main reason people moved here out of cities was for retirement. But now with working from home being an option we're seeing a lot more looking at a country life option instead of city life.

I predict as AI takes jobs we'll need less people and cities will incorporate more green spaces.
