A man has raped her, she tried to complain to authorities but it didn’t even go to trial because of lack of evidence.
She then saw the man walking about where she knew nobody else would see him, and she punched him so hard in the ribs that she (temporarily) broke them.
Should she serve time for this if convicted?

Assault and battery, plus vigilantism. Yeah, those warrant prison time (if convicted). Injuring or killing an attacker while you're being attacked, and sometimes under threat of attack, is another matter.
