You know who else thought the US was a decadent, weak country with no stomach for a real fight; one that would buckle at the slightest blow? Imperial Japan. Hiroshima and Nagasaki weren't military targets; they were chosen because they were two of the largest cities left in Japan at the time, basically everything else having been bombed into rubble.

That war ended when the United States demonstrated that if push came to shove, they, too, could slaughter innocent civilians. Do you think that ability has somehow gone DOWN in the past eighty years? Israel's engaging in a brutal occupation as a last-ditch effort to prevent an outright genocide; would you rather Palestinians be slaughtered outright?
