It can be both. Its often said that the cultural representatives of USA and its main diplomats are McDonalds, Coca Cola and Hollywood. It has become iconic of what USA is and spread American culture around the world. But these cultures are things that were created from the brands, not something that existed prior and as such it arguably destroyed the American culture that existed before. This however is exactly how culture functions so its not like its a terrible loss or something.
Hollywood destroys everything good.
