Do you think that Hollywood relies too much on nostalgia, rather than making new movies or shows?

The last original content Hollywood made was back in 2012. With their "2012 "(film) an appocolyictic film based on the 2012 world ending theory. After 2013! not many new content was made

The Golden age for Film and TV has to be The Three Golden decades (80s,90s,00s)

Since 2013 Hollywood has depended heavy on Remakes, Reboots and Re writes.

The biggest Films and shows from the 2010s are all Nostalgic content

Smurfs, Sonic, Star wars, Marvel, DC, Karate kid , and more..

Since 2013... they hadn't really bothered making new iconic content.

Why do you think this is? Is it a Money making thing or an Ideological thing? Fans love iconic classics.. but Modern Content is needed... How about new iconic content? Is it a Money Making thing?

There is a bit of recognition of the power of nostalgia in it, mostly for money.
The people and companies that invest in movies usually want their money back and then some. Young people have demonstrated that, no matter how much they like something, they’d rather steal it than buy it. And thanks to their two-minute spans of attention, they don’t like much outside of social media shorts.
So the people and companies went back to making things for the last generations that actually bought their entertainment and have a long enough span of attention to appreciate television shows and movies.
Who can blame them? Spend millions of dollars gambling on something that might not hit for the shrinking demographic who will actually financially support you? Or cash in again on a guaranteed return on your investment, no matter how small?

George Lucas said that these days the industry doesn’t have any imagination. They are afraid to do anything new because they want something they know will make money. So they are making remakes constantly. Protest against this by not going to watch an obvious remake money grab

I think Hollywood runs on the idea of familiarity, because human beings prefer what they know to what they have to learn and figure out brand new. It's why you have a classic group of actors and actresses that get hired in movies over and over when there are so many non hired people that could do the job just as well as the famous ones, it's because people want those they recognize and have some personal assessment of.

No for me most new movies are too stressful. They are more hectic and too much special effects. It is all too much and grows only. It is going on my nerves the new style. It is the camera angle too. I prefer older movies. I dont like most of the new movies or series.

"Nostalgia" is great!

And it's very different from "remakes", "rehashes", and trying to capitalize ON that "nostalgia" with a bunch of lame "sequels" that nowhere NEAR approach the originals. Examples- MacGyver, Magnum PI. New ones are poor, miss the whole vibe, gotta be woke and all that ruins the nostalgia. The only sequel I can even tolerate is the generation forward version of Hawaii FiveO. That one is approaching "fair", at least.

Not sure it is nostalgia for nostalgia's sake. Because of the ease of cloning digital media, mass pirating occurs. Because of that, entertainment as a whole has become very formulaic and unimaginative. There are unlikely to be major risk by big studios, so they look at what worked in the past.

Everything is recycled from something now, whether it be movies, music, or just about anything else. This will never change because a large portion of the population will always simply accept whatever is spoonfed to them.

The real issue is they're not making enough sequels, prequels that are "theatre released" - aka "cinemas released"

@Tysonryan if you are someone in Hollywood or have the ear of someone's in hollywood, maybe you can share the gossip of "I wish they'd stop releasing things (movies especially) on streaming versus releasing in cinemas/theatres like the good old days" - the good old days - which weren't even that long ago, the 2000s/2010s even - yikes 😁😏😋 please 🙏 go back to the cinemas/theatres - that's my only views at the moment. I want the content, I want the sequels, I want the prequels, I want the repeating of stories that seemingly never end - and recastings lol even - I just want cinemas/theatres to be kept the number 1 release source, not "it's streaming first" - streaming is second, not first. In my books 📚📖 aka in my mind.
