New York had a massive decline since the pandemic. Not even California is that messed up.

New York will survive. There are a few issues such as the local government being run as a byzantine bureaucratic hellhole and generations of real estate investors taking out massive loans hire out which means they can't afford to renovate or lower prices without going bankrupt etc..

The issue with the real estate will self correct itself by purging those who can't lower the price out of the system and the issue with the government just needs someone with the bright idea of reforming the organization. Hardly a situation that is beyond saving but it might take a few years or even decades still unless someone unexpectedly steps up.
