Pretty self explanatory, why are people so caught with what celebrities are doing and need to know what they are doing. I just find that crazy. Like live your own life who cares what these other people are doing.
+1 yI'm not part of that crowd, but I know why they do it. It's like watching a sitcom and every magazine cover, tweet or tiktok, is another chapter. I'd compare the female urge to idolise celebrities with Gossip Girl. Rich pretty people performing scandals as they hook up. It's a decrepit world of wealth, greed and lust that the average person can only admire from afar. We like to watch it because it allows us a window into how the upper-class live. And it's pretty damn cool.
Hence why people still won't shut up about Brad Pitt's celebrity drama, how Taylor Swift handles her extremely public beefs, The Rock and Kevin Hart's hilarious dynamic, or the way Keanu Reeves acts like one of us, despite being so... so wealthy.
Well, there's that reason. And the fact that some celebrities are too entertaining to look away from. Doja Cat dressing as a spawn of the devil? Kanye West supporting Hitler? Tom Holland spoiling every movie he's in? Paris Hilton? Ricky Gervais? Gordon Ramsay? Dylan Mulvaney? Andrew Tate? Donald Trump? How do you look away from them when they're so loud? The fact they exist is just free entertainment11 Reply- +1 y
I agree you do have a point and people can live thier life how they want. It's fine to indulge sometimes. But I mean when they obsess and cry over celebrities it's kind of wild. Or say for instance if they have a boyfriend , that they would love to sleep with a celebrity because he's nice and good looking. But how do you know how they are you don't know them

+1 yI have a general awareness of different celebrities, but I don't follow their lives. For example, I've heard of the Kardashians and I think they have/had a show? But I'd never watch it, because I just see a pic of them and think "drama". Plus, there are way more interesting things to watch than non-reality TV...
I think for many women, it's a form of escapism, like video games can be for guys. As another user said, women are more social, so perhaps it's a more relational form of escapism.

+1 yThat gender tends to be collectivists a bit more often than they turn out as individualists. Sure some are not, but some dudes will carry on parasocial relationships as well. There is no doubt a general gender difference in the results of who ends up doing it.
Traits they tend to have... pussies, have no real hobbies or a life of their own, are usually the same people that will share the exact opinion given to them by talking heads on a screen or repeat shit they're told to think. They come back from college with opinions rather than any real skill. Bottom line, they're the same people that make the NPC memes in the political world.

Basically, these people don't have a life or mind of their own. Of course, they're obsessed with someone they'll probably never meet on the television/phone screen.
NPC = Non Playable Character

Yea that's sad smh. It's fucked that like 75%-80% of women are like that. Saying they would sleep with a male celebrity if they had a chance. They are just people with some talent big whoop I don't know what's wrong with some women. Then they say that the celebrities are so nice, like you don't even know them

+1 yThey're sheep. They look at celebrities and wish they had their money, fame, and lives. Usually the people that follow celebrities are materialistic. The girls tend to be gold diggers, etc. If someone can't think for themselves, they'll likely be in this cstegory.

+1 ySome people worship people rather than viewing them as equals and they fixate on the ideal that can never argue or yell or display any type of flaw.

+1 yI think it's true in general that women seem more interested in celebrity than men. It may be because women in general are more sociable than men. I think as a generality, women are social and men are competitive.

They all poop just like we do, so they are no different than the rest of us.14 Reply- +1 y
sure, but it is a double edge sword, be careful what you wish for.
They cannot function like we do.
You can't go to public places, out to eat, all the things we take for granted, but they can't.
Sure they have money, fame etc, but are basically prisoners inside their homes.
How much do you think it is worth to be able to go out for dinner, see a movie, just go out for a walk without being mobbed.
Then they complain they do not have any privacy while they have a couple 2, 3 publicists on staff alerting everyone where they will be so they can stay relevant.
No thanks.
I'm happy being me.
+1 yWhy do you care that people care about celebrities? Like live your own life.

@massb Well they do, but that is for entertainment. It isn’t truly jealousy 24/7, it is the appeal of this ‘alien’ lifestyle. I don't know how better to describe the feeling, but I can empathize. Magazines / reality TV / documentaries are all forms of entertainment and mostly follow the celebrities for entertainment during off times of the day to unwind maybe. Makes them feel good.

+1 yWomen have always been obsessed with pop culture. This same obsession drive women to write and fall in love with murderers in prison or bad boy celebrities.
11 Reply 8.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I suppose it depends on you definition of obsessed. I would imagine it would cross the line if someone deems someone else as evil if they don't find any interest in a certain celebrity.
