Same day, paper ballot with voter ID is the most secure way to have an election. The longer it drags out the more chances to cheat. Up until ten years ago that is how everyone voted. If people felt strongly enough to have an influence in choosing our leaders they will get off the couch and go and vote. The democrats have failed to produce a single instance where a minority was prevented to vote of was prevented from getting a voter ID. You can bet they would go and get an ID if they needed it to buy booze.

Fifty years ago I voted by absentee ballots many, many times since I was out of the state and often out of the country, serving in the Navy. They checked the signature, which still works. So much for your "Up until ten years ago that is how everyone voted." In Oregon, voters must provide their driver's license number or state ID card number when registering. From then on, their signature on the ballot is checked. In Texas, you can vote by filling out a form explaining why you don't have the state ID and show a current utility bill. In New York you can fill in an application and provide a current utility bill. (Is that how Trump was allowed to vote?) Many other states are just as easy. So much for your voter ID requirement.

Voters of color consistently face longer wait times on Election Day — lines that would be exacerbated by cutting alternative options, such as vote-by-mail or expansive early voting hours.

Our report from 2020 indicates that voters of color around the country reported longer wait times in the 2018 midterms, using self-reported wait times from a national survey.
Other research — including work from the Brennan Center — has also used administrative data to show that polling places with fewer white voters have more slowdowns.
Poll taxes, literacy tests, fraud and intimidation all turned African Americans away from the polls. Until the Supreme Court struck it down in 1915, many states used the "grandfather clause " to keep descendants of slaves out of elections.

@Red_Arrow An absentee ballot is different that what we have here. You had to actively fill out a form to request the ballot , then the ballot is mailed to you, you fill it out and sign it. Now the state mails a ballot to everyone who collects welfare or gets arrested or other interactions with the state. They did not request it. It is not clear if they are citizens or not. Anybody can fill it out and mail it back or they can put it in any one of the many drop boxes. Once the ballot ends up in the drop box it is impossible to tell a fake ballot from a valid one. Itis purposely designed so there is no what to tell if the ballot is real or just printed by the democrats.

When I was younger (up to about 10 years ago), we didn't use paper ballots, we voted on a mechanical machine originally built in the 1890s that was foolproof. When checking in to vote, you didn't have to provide an ID. Instead, you had to give your name and address, and then the election inspectors (one from each party) opened this huge book of registered voters in your district, and asked you to sign your name. They then compared your signature with the one in the book, Only if they matched were you allowed to vote.

@AviatorTom Back then many machines were found to be hacked. Not anywhere near foolproof.

@exitseven Well, it is true that I never filled out a for inactively. How do you do that? Now I have never been arrested or been on welfare, etc. I proved my citizenship decades ago. I get a ballot mailed to me each election which I fill out and return. My signature on the ballot is checked against my signature on record. It does not go in a drop box, it is recorded as soon as the signature is revealed. There are representatives of both parties watching. The ballots are kept till all votes are tabulated. No way a fake ballot can get through. You must be thinking of the fake electors that the Republicans keep trying to push through.

@Red_Arrow The state I live in sends a a mail in ballot to anyone getting a drivers license or registers a car, go on welfare or unemployment, get paroled from prison. The state gives drivers licenses to illegal aliens. Connect the dots.

How has it come to this, that Ted Cruz is the moderate voice of SANITY?

I'm British. I've had to present ID to vote since I was 18.

I live in South Africa. Citizens here have to present ID to vote.

It's not rocket science. Not insisting on ID makes fraudulent voting more likely.

Perhaps the idea is "vote early, vote often"...

I don't answer political questions, but I will say that calling voter integrity laws racist, or claiming that voter ID laws are racist, is saying that blacks, and hispanics are either too stupid, or too ignorant, or just too dumb to get a free ID card… now THAT is racist!

Yes, he is 100% correct. I would have no problem showing my ID to vote, because anyone can get a ID. It's once again liberals trying to get illegals to vote. I definitely would vote for him to be President and actually did in the 2016 GOP primary.
