Does conscription have any place in a free society?

The government doesn’t really represent the country. The government is a separate entity that has its own interests, much as a church, a corporation, or any other organization does. The problem is that the government is the only institution in society that doesn’t survive by voluntary trade and production. It survives by force.

Well registering if there is a war and the government needs you also provides benefits to you depending on where you live (at least my family told me that, I’m registered) Secondly, remember Pearl Harbor of how our country was willing to go overseas and fight for freedom & preservation of Democracy? That is how we would feel if we were pulled into a war by North Korean assault or Russian aggression since we’d rather die than enter a communistic / dictatorship regime trying to harm our families & our friends. That is how it is, I’m proud to register (knowing 99.9% I most likely won’t have to serve a war)

The government does partially represent the country. People vote for it and this society has become so politicized anyway.

Well if there are free and fair elections with proportional representation or absolute majority voting, then the government is according to the wishes of the people and not a power imposed by foreign forces. so i should act along to the needs of the society.

Well put it this way if we did not have conscription in both world wars we would have lost and we would now be living under a dictatorship without any freedom or equality, at least across Europe anyway. The snowflake, selfish, entitled and woke brainwashed under 40s would do well to remember that.

Well the government according to our founding fathers was supposed to be “of the people, by the people.
unfortunately, it is no longer this way.

A very interesting question, especially as the wokey military is facing record shortages of enlistments. We may need to draft to fight for tranny rights overseas.

They don’t have the draft anymore and when I was younger, I registered

The system is still going. They haven't had to force a new draft since Nam, but they can whenever they want. They're going to have to do it for the upcoming wars, because people aren't joining the military like they used to.
