The draft and conscription are two different things. One is required military service during wartime, the latter is mandated military service during peacetime or wartime, usually upon arriving at a certain age.
Both do help to foster esprit de corps, a shared cultural and national experience, and ensures that everyone has some skin in the game. A volunteer military has its advantages, because everyone wants to be there—they weren’t told to be there. However, one draw back of this is that increasingly our wars and even military interventions during peacetime such as in response to natural disasters is made up by a very, very small percentage of the population. The war or military service is something that “other people” do. It doesn’t really touch their lives, when used to it was something that everyone could use to relate to one another.

not a fan, if it was intruced it should be for both genders and there should be an option to do voluntary social work as an alternative
