Does it always come from a nonBlack ancestor?
5.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. In the American continent due to slavery many Black people have White ancestors. I guess that's why some Black Americans have White features.
Or it could be because of the climate, their bodies adjusted to it.

1 yIn short, genetics. For example, my great grandfather on my mother’s side was white. As a result, my grandfather, mom, and sister are all light skinned.

It doesn't necessarily come from an ancestor far in the past.

1.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Races are not real. Africans has been mixing with Europeans since forever so obviously you would expect some overlap. Also there are no "white features".

Races are real. It is the effect of evolution. Humans have adapt to environment, where their group lived. Because in the past people did not much traveled certain groups of people have different characteristics based on geographical location they originated. So races are real. And yes. They can mix.
- 1 y
@_piotr No they are not. They could theoretically develop but that requires a few things which has not happened. Most relevant to our conversation is isolation. Unlike what you think humans has been traveling since day one, since that was literally something established by ancestral species. For example, we literally traveled to the neanderthals and assimilated them into our own population.
Humanity do indeed have enough diversity that we could in theory have different races, but we dont. Why? Because that diversity is literally too diverse. You have more in common with other "races" than you do with everyone of your own "race" which is ridiculous. The isolation in the Americas before Europe found them again was probably our last real chance to develop a human species naturally.. unless you count the savages living on sentinel island or something which may or may not have developed far enough.
Point is that we have mixed too much and this is a position that every expert in the field agrees upon. This is the accepted scientific consensus on this topic. - 1 y
As you can see there are white people, black people, hello race (Asian, chinese, japanese), red (native americans), brown (hindu), etc... They have different characteristics that developed because of geographical location.
For example black people have darker complexion because they originated in locations with more sun. So do not lie about this woke theory of yours. You can see people of different races all over the world. This is political correctness, not science. - 1 y
@_piotr Ah yes. Hello blue eyed people, blond people, redheads etc.. Diversity does not equal new races and the fact that two people are different, even in major and very visual ways is neither new nor evidence of different races. The human species has a very wide variable.
But sure, lets not take my word for it. Why dont you open up google and search for it yourself?
Like for example wikipedia:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_(human_categorization)
"Modern science regards race as a social construct, an identity which is assigned based on rules made by society. While partly based on physical similarities within groups, race does not have an inherent physical or biological meaning."
https://www.britannica.com/topic/race-human
"Genetic studies in the late 20th century refuted the existence of biogenetically distinct races, and scholars now argue that “races” are cultural interventions reflecting specific attitudes and beliefs that were imposed on different populations in the wake of western European conquests beginning in the 15th century."
askabiologist.asu.edu/questions/human-races
"Do different "races" exist? In terms of biology, no. In biology, we’re actually finding that what we used to call “races” aren’t different enough to have as separate groups."
www.nationalgeographic.com/.../race-ethnicity
"Neither race nor ethnicity is detectable in the human genome. Humans do have genetic variations, some of which were once associated with ancestry from different parts of the world. But those variations cannot be tracked to distinct biological categories."
And since you probably want some scientific papers, even if you probably won't read them:
rosenberglab.stanford.edu/.../popstructSupp.pdf
https://genome.cshlp.org/content/12/4/602.long

You fail to understand that within race its members are not identical. They vary. You are saying something like: "there are no colours. See one car is more/less red than other. Colour is spectrum." Sorry there are colours and you can not deny that. We can categorise cars according to colours.
In Africa people were black before mixing. Why there was diversity there? Where were redheads there? Or blue eyes or blond hairs? The answer is simple they belong to one race that does not have such features.
The same with yellow race. Why they have epicanthic fold on eyes? To protect from sunlight. Did you notice that without any mixing: why they have all black hair?
It is because of EVOLUTION. It made the races. They adapted to environments in which they lived in diverse ways based on geographic location.
Thanks for links but, I do not believe in wokeness. Current academia is loaded with wokeness. Scientists once believed space is filled with "ether". Nowadays they say there are hundreds of genders. Money, ideologies, fame can buy scientists, they are not immune.
Wikipedia on the other hands is a source that anyone can edit. - 1 y
@_piotr You fail to understand what a race is, and is not. You do not need to have races for diversity, including regional groups. It is also expected to be traits that does not exist everywhere such as blue eyes, red hair or the epicanthic fold. And of course it is evolution that created this variety.
But once again, variety does not require different races.
I do have to appreciate how you can just close your eyes and shout loudly about "wokeness" to avoid having to deal with real life facts, but its not a lifestyle that I personally want to live. - 1 y
@_piotr You mean, like racism? The belief that there are different races? That the earth is flat? To put it very bluntly, the existence or nonexistence of human races are important for many scientific branches such as medicine since that would mean that medicine has to be customized to those races.
- 1 y
Racism is different problem. It is when somebody treats people of other races as inferior. Racism is not knowledge and accepting the fact that such groups (races) of people exists. Medicine does not to be customised as our bodies are sufficiently similar. You do not need even customisation for medicine for different species of aquarium fish. And races vary even less than species.
You are talking that the earth is flat, by believing in pseudoscience of wokeness. - 1 y
@_piotr If two things are different then you can always find a reason why one is superior to another. Racism and the existence of races is inherently connected.
And yes, medicine has to be customized. Generalized medicine is actually one of the main reasons why people are dying or not responding to medication and why most medical experts believe personalized medicine is the future.
And I am bringing up flat earth because it conforms with human experience, as in you look around and it looks flat which is an apt comparison to your views on races. "They look different, therefore they must be different." - 1 y
Ha, ha, ha Then your failure is now complete.
Because I can create a lot of groups: redheads and not read heads. Tall and short. People that work for one company and the ones that work for another. AND "you can always find a reason why one is superior to another.". Than there is no point in fighting racism since it is inherent to reality!!!
Therefore:
If you acknowledge the existence of races, you do not change anything since any random division of humans is racist.
If you deny it, then it also does not change anything.
So why resist the truth?
The thing that people are equal is a myth of french revolution and a weak point of democracy, where two drunk boors have more to say on state politics than professor of university!
We need to go back to monarchies to create normality again.
- 1 y
@_piotr Man, this is painful. So much dumb is happening here.
You know what? Ill just leave it at the fact that science has long since come to the consensus that races does not exist and if you want to disagree with that, feel free. Ill just go over there where people are less stupid and you can remain in your ignorance.
