Depends on how you'd define closet democrat right? He is showing a pattern of trying to do everything to stop Trump, so its completely in character to donate to the democrats when you can't vote, and vote against Trump in a primary when you can vote out of pure tact (Just like the other democrats who registered republican to vote Nicky Hailey in lack of their own primary).

Its just obvious he is not a republican, republicans wouldn't ever donate to actblue, they wouldn't kill a republican president and in general most republicans are on board with Trump. Just doesn't fit the profile of a true republican at all, but does fit the profile if someone who is against Trump at all costs.

Update: I am seeing reports the shooter used an AR-15, that specific weapon is the preferred weapon of accelerationists that wish to divide the country. This makes it more likely that the shooter was convinced by accelerationists to commit this act and talked in to it. So there may be people behind this attack that we are not immediately seeing.

Wouldn't surprise me if the government aren't behind these shooting as useful tactic to gain support for taking peoples guns. Funny thing is all the gun grabbers keep referring to the AR-15 as an assault weapon, when no military in their right mind would over think of giving to their soldiers. What it DOES have in it's favor is everyone makes parts for it, so much like you can soup up a Honda Civic to something that can lay down some rubber, you can swap out the barrel, sights, bolt, trigger and make a much more accurate weapon.

More like he wasn't really a Republican- in closed primary states like Pennsylvania, leftists are instructed to register as Republicans so they can vote in Republican primaries for the candidate the Democrats think is least electable.

Donating money to a far-left org for the purposes of getting out the vote for Democrats (which is what he specifically donated for) is unambiguously the act of a far-left Democrat and makes it clear where his political sympathies lie even if someone wants to be deliberately obtuse and pretend that trying to assassinate Trump isn't something a far left type would have done (see the many Democrats who called for Trump's assassination).

Articles I read said this was several years ago and a pretty small amount, so it's entirely possible that he just shifted his values to align with the republican party in the last few years. Not like it's unheard of for someone to be changing their beliefs or preferences a lot as a young adult, that's usually around the time when people are starting to more strongly define their political opinions.

He was a registered Republican and wore a T Shirt from a PRO 2nd Amendment channel. He used an AR-15 Style Rifle too. He was white male, possible mental health issues, and probably had an issue with authority as most of these shooters are cookie cutter based regardless of political standing.

*edit We now have a former Highschool classmate (since he recently graduated not too long ago since his age is ‘20’) coming forward that the shooter was Conservative, was bullied, always kept to himself especially eating lunch alone. He was surprised to know he shot Republican Candidate Trump because he was always Conservative. He did give to Act Blue in 2021 too so, it is plausible that he was a Trump supporter then felt cheated n lied to… Though I will wait
for the investigation to come out though.

Anyways, there is more research that shows ANOTHER Thomas Crooks age 69 lives in Pennsylvania and apparently if you are under 18(which the shooter would’ve been at the time) you can’t donate to Act Blue so, it is more reasonable to say that the 69 yr old donated not the 20 yr old. Also we know these are two separate people because on the data sheet showcased in a photo of residents of PA, it had a middle name for the 20 yr old however no middle name for the 69 year old. Furthermore, it showcased where each of them lived and the 69 yr old didn’t live an hour away though the 20 yr old lived an hour away from the speech. These are two different individuals.

Many democrats register Republican so they can vote for weak nominees from the Republican party. He wasn't a real Republican, he just wanted to get around the rules to subvert the process.

Pennsylvania is one of ten states with a closed primary, meaning that you have to be a registered Republican to vote for the Republican nominees in the Primary, the same with Democrats and their Primary in that state.
