What do you mean by support? Emotional? Financial? I think how much you give is really just a function of how much you have to give and whether or not you actually want to or find value in the act of giving that support. I try to be emotionally supportive of pretty much anyone I come across, because why not? I pretty much only financially support myself (I'm a student rn 🤷♀️), and barely that, but I do try to provide people services and the like where I can (ex. pet sitting for my parents, etc). I think you kind of have to make the decision of like "how much can I give, how much to I want to give, am I receiving in return, etc" Relationships shouldn't be quid pro quo (exchange based) but it also shouldn't be just you providing to everyone around you, and if that's how you precieve your current position then you should probably sit down with yourself and sit down with the people around you to work on resolving that problem.
You don’t sound like a supportive person. You sound selfish
Hardly lol. I'm not really sure why you think so.
Having boundaries and establishing mutually beneficial relationships is kind of the grounds of having happy, healthy relationships in your life. If you're only giving, or giving far more than you're comfortable with, then you're likely to feel resentful rather of how much is being asked of you than grateful that people can turn to you for support in the ways that you CAN give.
I'm not in the position to financially support much of anything because I don't exactly have a lot of money right now. I really look forward to the day when I can be the first to offer to pay for a group meal or buy nicer things for my family and friends, etc. For now I'll focus on just trying to pay back what's given to me.
I am in the position to be emotionally supportive because I know I can go to others for emotional support when I need it as well. If I can get help with my problems then I'm that much more capable of helping other people deal with theirs to the best of my ability.
I don't support anyone. No one supports me.
Someone would have to have a very good reason before I would support them.
Irl I only give support to family and friends
