Americans, do you seriously think that a return to an isolationist policy would be a good thing?

Historically speaking, there has never been a situation where a country going isolationist has worked out for them. At best you can say it was no major change in prosperity or living standards but more realistically it was always the beginning of the end for their nation. Not necessarily total destruction but a drastic drop in every aspect and usually resulted in being abused by their neighbors.
Isolationist policies are good as long as your not actually isolating. Ensuring your self sustaining is great for stability and economy in your country. You just want to also have good relations with other countries and trade with them to, but if that fails somehow you don't want to be screwed.
we've never had an isolationist policy, since the end of the British Empire, we've always been the rescuers, the financiers and the peacekeepers of the world
Pretty much impossible. True isolationism involves like ending international trade and cultural exchange, so no. Not a good idea.

Working together as a strong alliance including Nato and others such as the AP4 is the best solution for sure. But if Europe wants to simply have the US protect them and offering nothing in return then yes, Isolationism is the way to go.
Europe won’t spend the money needed to have a credible military. Europe won’t strongly support Asia 4 with money, weapons, alliance and possibly war to keep China at bay. These things won’t change as Europe is just too short sighted, so yes, I fully support Isolationism and believe that is the likely path if Europe does not quickly change… and I don’t think Europe will change. Its such a shame, a real missed opportunity for world peace and stability but the Germans are cheap, self centered and could care less what happens outside of their borders especially in Asia. In this way, Germany will yet again take the world to war.
The US doesn't have to go from one extreme to another, but it does need to avoid involvements where it has no national interest at stake and after almost 80 years it does need to finally stop protecting European nations that won't defend themselves.
Not completely, but dialing things back somewhat would help; we've spent so much that we're having to borrow billions of dollars every few days just to pay interest on the national debt. Our nation-building ventures in Iraq and Afghanistan were dismal failures, and our infrastructure is falling apart.
On top of that, we've got more serious issues much closer to home; Canada's turning into an authoritarian hellhole, and nobody seems to care.
There are some Americans who believe in isolationism. I, and most others, do not.
Some take the statement "America first" to mean "America only", which is not what it means. I believe in taking care of one's country first, and then take care of others in the world.
Isolationism would not be a good thing. More favorable trade agreements with foreign countries and making sure that we do not ship all the industries we currently have in the United States overseas. We have already lost many of them already.
It's not going to happen globally. The US is too dependent on cheap goods from around the world. What WILL happen if Trump and the GOP get in is that the people of the USA will get isolated as they lose more and more of their rights and the country turns into Gilead.
I agree with what Otterman said. I think it's important to maintain economic and diplomatic relations, however I do not think we should be imposing our ideology, form of governing and way of life on other countries, and I don't think we should be sending our soldiers to places where they aren't wanted, to fight in civil wars that have nothing to do with us
No. It would be terrible and anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot who didn't learn from history.
It would be better than our current arrangement. Which is basically just paying out the ass for other countries to hate us ever so slightly less.
We won't do that. We will become more America first under Trump 47 but we will always gauge National Security.
US allies do need to spend more on defense and have credible defense forces.
militarily, yes. Bring our troops home from Syria and Iraq and get out of the involvment in Yemen.
diplomatically, no.
economically, no.
Probably not. That's why we're voting for Trump.
How about everyone take care of their countries and stop sucking the sore and tender teat of America.
It absolutely would be a good thing. I'm tired of footing the bill for Europe's defense.
Sure the do cause they don't realize what made America great was the fact that America was a melting pot of all different races and ethnicities!!!
Not only HELL NO but FUCK NO!! The MAGA cult thinks insular egotism is a POLICY!! Dumfuks
It would be good for other counties in that it would prevent US industries from exploiting them.
it's not even possible
The rest of the world probably thinks so.
I know for a fact, it wouldn't be
