Politicians are mostly grifters, lmao. We’ve allowed it to become a lucrative job during, and after, via totally-not-a-bribe jobs on Boards Of Directors and such with companies with lobbying agendas. So people want in, and they want to stay for a while. There’s also the fame and power aspect. “DC is Hollywood for ugly people”, as they say.

One of the things that drives me nuts with politicians is that you very often can’t mail them down on a hard “for” or “against” when it comes to issues. I think the worry is that they’ll say something that will upset someone who might’ve otherwise voted for them. Just deliberately disingenuous right in your face.

I remember NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell doing the same thing when the Patriots had the whole DeflateGate accusation thing. Regardless of what you think happened, the NFL talked all this big bad shit about how they’d be testing balls before every game the next season, and then never released any results, presumably because it wouldn’t have been damning to the Patriots and made the League look like assholes. I remember local reporters from up my way directly asking him “where are the results?”, and he just straight up wouldn’t answer, he’d give some rambling word salad answer that wouldn’t even address the topic, and then they’d be like “thanks everyone, that’s all the questions we’re taking today!”🤦‍♂️😂

Politicians do that same routine. Sort of come out for something, but don’t definitely say yes or no, just so there’s wiggle room. “You did you were against X/Y/Z!” “No, sir, I said…”, and fill in the rest with some nonsense that will assuage the voter in front of them but not offend those already on board.

That whole crew around Trump are about the sorriest bunch I’ve ever seen. These are people who just want to be close to power. Vivek Ramaswammy, Byron Donalds, Matt Gaetz, Jim Jordan, Mike Johnson, Marjorie Taylor Green…. every last one of these people are clowns, but they’re having a moment because of Trump. Shit, this Vance dude he picked as VP called him America’s Hitler, and now he’s out here like it never happened, lmao. It’s so hard to take these people seriously.

But yeah, it’s all just about proximity to power, and Trump, maybe more than any other President in the past, is so egomaniacal that he deliberately surrounds himself with people like that to feed his own narcissism.
