Why do so many people answer an attack on their politician by ignoring the issue and instead attacking the other party?

For instance, if you criticize President Biden for something, they bring up the transgressions of Donald Trump. Or vice versa. And assume you must be from the other party.

If they can't defend their candidate on the issue involved they should just STFU and not assume you support some particular other candidate.

Because Trump doesn't represent a different brand of politics. He represents the end of democracy in this nation.

That's a totally different conversation than criticizing Biden for the withdrawal from Afghanistan. Or saying Obama was much too close to the Saudis. It is different than saying Bush screwed up Iraq.

Trump represents the people in this nation who want to do away with the Constitution. His supporters want to end the concept that we all have rights and freedoms including the right to vote.

It’s the Republicans who tell people they shouldn’t have freedom of speech, that their journalists and publications should be silenced, that people shouldn’t gather and assemble (unless they are chanting “Black Lives Matter”), that they shouldn’t have guns to protect themselves, and that they shouldn’t go to church or places of worship because it could be a “super-spreader.”

Have you ever even read the Constitution? Or did you hit yourself in the head with a hammer while doing so?

True, but that doesn't excuse plain stupidity from the current administration, and the practice (universal, unfortunately) of appointing people who are inept and unqualified for the positions they get just because they are "good party soldiers".

Because Trump can run the nation into the ground if elected that would be a political agenda and folks could hold an opinion either way. But to undermine our elections as he is currently in Pennsylvania is epitome of Nazism. As he is telling Dr. Oz to declare victory before the count was done. The only thing we got is this business of free and open elections. We have let every other pillar of democracy fall. And if you guys continue to claim the only elections that are okay are only ones you win, then we are basically Syria, North Korea, China, or Russia.

Politics isn't an exclusive game. Both parties are involved, and many issues and laws are carried over from one to the other.

The previous candidate (in your case, Trump) has caused a lot of issues which the current candidate is dealing with. He needs to deal with those issues as much as start and develop his own agendas that he got elected for.

Americans are fucking retards in this regard. They think voting in a new candidate means a magical reset button has been hit for new candidate to hit the smooth ground running.

When talking politics you need to talk policies and issues - not the politician. Mainly as the politician will be only a small part of the overall department and groups involved in it.

The way USA votes works there is a 2 party system. In other words most people are not voting FOR a candidate but AGAINST the other. As such it matters very little if their own candidate has issues and problems if they consider the other candidate to be worse and their reason to support their candidate is specifically because the others flaws.

Basically, American politics is broken.
