How does culture influence our perception of beauty?

Do you believe as a culture, it influences someone’s desires to be beautiful, as society and as our cultures deems fit? What do you believe is the standard for beauty? Is it relevant to your life or aspects of it?

Each culture gets used to a common beauty within that culture but that can be good or bad depending on the person and if they are open or close minded, to open minded people they would be used to it but when they see a different kind of beauty it might intrigue them, if they are close minded they will only stick to that beauty they are used too and possibly not be open to any other forms of beauty.

its a very complicated answer to this question, but if i had to sum it up: our environments and the media do the large chunk of shaping our perceptions.

Yes. Culture has a huge impact. Women blame men for pushing them to look beautiful. Yet, it’s women who compete with each other for that title. I mean we also hear the old absolute bullshit argument that when a woman goes out and puts on makeup it’s for themselves. lol yeah, right. Either way, with the rise of beauty standards comes the rise of mental health issues. And this culture is full of that.

I really think there's an influence on the trends for beauty...

but not the true perception of every day beauty

most of it is just marketing... and most people just go around more normally, not always glammed up and fashionable
