When I was younger, I had this little friend who was always gettin picked on by a boy in our neighborhood. It really got on my nerves, so one day, I decided to step in. I marched right up to that bully with all the confidence of a bossy girl who wasn’t takin any nonsense. I told him straight up that if he didn’t stop bullying my friend, I’d tell everyone about his behavior—his friends, teachers, parents, everyone. He looked so shocked and scared, lol. But I didn’t just stop there. I made a demand: to make up for all the times he bullied her, he had to become our “horsey.” Yep, u heard that right. Every day after that, he came over to my house, and my friend and I would take turns riding on his back around the house. Sometimes, we even rode him together at the same time. It was a sight to see! And here’s the funny part: I weirdly started loving the horsey rides. Like, I got totally addicted to it. It was happening so frequently that it became a regular part of our afternoons. He went along with it, probably out of fear that I’d actually follow through on my threats, haha. Looking back, it was our way of flipping the script and having some fun at his expense. Plus, it brought my friend and me closer together, and we had some of the best laughs during those rides. It’s one of those childhood memories that’s equal parts weird, funny, and a little bit empowering.

      How did that end though?

Oh, the ending was kinda funny too. One day, his mom found out about the whole "horsey" thing. She came over and had a serious talk with us. She wasn't mad or anything, just kinda amused and told us we needed to find a new game to play. We all laughed it off, and that was pretty much the end of our horsey rides. It was a bit awkward for a while, but we eventually moved on to other games and stayed friends. Looking back, it was a wild and silly time, but we all learned a lot about standing up for each other and having fun in the process.

And what made to choose playing horsey as a punishment?

Lol, it was a spur-of-the-moment idea. Imagining him on all fours, crawling around while we gave commands and carried our weight felt like the ultimate humiliation. Plus, it was a fun way to make my friend feel better!

Did you ever play that again afterwards?

Trying to boost the person's confidence.

It's impossible to stop bullying... but people can be taught how to deal better with any kind of bullying and thus the bullying will lose its effect.

This is exactly what I taught my children. I've said I fully understand it hurts, after all I have been bullied a lot myself, but Bullies expect a responds: Don't give them what they want... They'll get bored soon enough and will leave you in peace. They might increase their attempts first, but they will give up eventually.

Break down if you feel you need to... but ensure it's out of sight and in private. Take all their means to bully you away.
