How close is humanity, to a very big "game changer" event?

Scott Ritter 2024, whom was part of dismantling nuclear weapons under Reagan and granted, maybe gives more weight to russian view than many others, but still...

... around 10:00 to 13:00 minute mark... Russias response to Ukraine..."90 seconds to midnight has been changed to microseconds...". The policies are put in place for Russia to respond with nuclear weapons... if anyone hits them with even tactical weapons in their nuclear deterence.

We were closer during the Cuban Missile Crisis; multiple times, even. Russia's planning on annexing (more of) Ukraine, or at best, converting it to a puppet state; Putin wouldn't nuke territory he plans to capture. The only way nukes would start flying over that is if Russia itself were invaded by NATO forces.

However, it's entirely possible that this will inspire other regional powderkegs to blow, escalating into a World War, and THAT could set the ICBMs off.

I don't think Putin is that dumb. No way he uses the nuclear option. But I can see thie war potentially widen. In the mid east as well. In the day cooler heads tend to prevail. The only way Russia or Iran goes full bore is if they're back into a corner to a point that they have NOTHING to lose. And the world community is smart enough NOT to push them into that corner. Not that we couldn't deal with Iran and or Russia. But the cost would simply too high... for EVERYONE.

thing is doesn't have to be putin. see the policies in place. ditto the USA. Very easy to make a mistake... mis calculation. It doesn't have to be by supreme order... is how I understand the situation at this point... the policies are written and distributed. Accidentally hit a missile or control center with a long range missile (which are deployed in Ukraine and allowed to be used)... or an F16, etc.. and it's up to those commanders eh? What do they do when their communications lines are cut?
How drunk are the commanders making the decisions now? considering, they are under a lot of pressure including their own lives.
risky... point being, the risk has gone from "no way in hell anyone is that stupid to press button to"..."someone just might".

we are witnessing one right now. we're in the middle of the AI evolution. AI has been a buzzword for many decades but we can now see the results of complex machine learning processes and it's already boosting our progress in many areas by many orders of magnitude.

We're about 30 seconds from a cataclysmic event, especially if Russia unleashes nukes on Ukraine, perhaps involving NATO against Putin. We'd have to gauge China's response, however.
