How about an AI CITY MAYOR?

Cheyenne, Wyoming, the state capital, is having an election for City Mayor. One of the six candidates on the ballot has pledged to let an AI chatbot run the city government, a first for a US political campaign. The candidate, librarian Victor Miller, built a customized ChatGPT bot called VIC (Virtual Integrated Citizen), which he argues could make more data-driven, unbiased decisions than any human as leader of Cheyenne.

No machine should ever have executive responsibility.

No good will come from that because machines are as fallible as humans because humans made the machines. But machines are quicker and more efficient than humans, so, a machine implements errors much more quickly and efficiently than humans do.

Furthermore, no programmed machine can anticipate new scenarios that were unforeseen by the programmers. It is basically for this reason that we do not have automated justice but instead have judges. Furthermore, machines can be tampered will and become agents of evil.

You know, this isn't like "splitting atoms", which are by definition unsplittable, or Pluto being called "not a planet" since it's a dwarf planet, which is by definition a type of planet; those are just annoyances that don't actually hurt anything.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE DOES NOT YET EXIST.

What's being used here are computer programs that are completely incapable of thinking or genuine reasoning, just following the programming they're given by those who programmed them. Think of the computer glitches that drop your stock prices, or send your luggage to Toledo when you're flying to Sacramento- then add in the potentially horrific motivations of whoever programmed it, who gets to stay in the shadows, beyond blame. THAT is what you're signing up for.

People don't want unbiased decisions they want decisions that are biased in their favour. Data based decisions work in a computer model but not when your dealing with people who's lives are affected by them.

Following data based logic we should get rid of lifeboats on ships.
The vast majority are never used.
Lifeboats statistically kill more people than they save through onboard accidents or training accidents.

Following the same logic do we really need a fireservice to cover that poor neighbourhood? There's only low paid jobs here so why waste money on education?

Now think about that it can be made to do anything legal or illegal and you and I would never know what backdoor programs were installed

Until we solve the following problems its a very bad idea:
1- hallucinations AI lies.
2- An understanding of context. AI is logical but has no subtitles no contextual awareness
3- AI blind spots, AI can misunderstand wording and because of that may give bad advice, wrong answers.
4- lack of contextual logic. AI can not solve many logic problems and it shows its inability to walk through problems.

Because of these failings AI will make a poor politician, judge, or police officer.

This is coming from a programmer in AI.

As someone who's profession is literally to train AI's to perform a wider variety of tasks i can tell you this is a horrible idea.
