I've had that same observation myself and I don't get it. Some of it is the puritan work ethic from protestants but it doesn't explain it all.

This may be true, because historically Latin America has been Socialist and anti-Capitalist. And Latin America is very Catholic. Poland was like this too.

@KostasKouvalis Protestant is a branch of Christianism that appeared a lot later and if you look at it they removed a lot of things from traditional Catholic teaching to make it a lot more relaxed than Catholics (just like a King of the UK become Protestant and forced his country to become too because he wanted to be able to divorce and get remarried) in today life Catholic church still do not allow divorce neither recognize it, do not allow contraception, Catholic have to wear a veil during prayer and for the longest time weren't allowed to enter a church without covering their head, etc... We also have to fast 40 days between Careme and Paque, Catholic teaching also forbid priest for marrying because they need to devote their life to god entirely and in old family during the middle age / Renaissance etc... parent needed to send at least one child to the army and one to the Catholic church to become a priest if not their family were badly considered and shamed. Catholic teaching are extremely harsh (just like if you sin you need to fast 40 days with minimum bread and water, on your knee praying all the time and sleeping the minimum).
Protestant teaching next to it feel like a joke, like people wanted to be seen as religious but removed all the "annoying" part of the religion.
