I believe they should always be consequences. The problem is that too many people nowadays feel like they can say and do whatever they like no matter how it affects others. Then they feel entitled to act that way without any repercussions at all. Can't hit somebody because it's assault and you'll go to jail. So people just get away with saying all kinds of horrible shit.
I understand that sometimes the judgement might can get out of hand but that doesn't mean that consequences should just cease being important.
Wanna know why we have more karens in society now as a whole? Because they don't get punished.
Wanna know why there's so much hostility online and why there's so much harmful misinformation spread every second? No consequences at all. Humans shouldn't be allowed to do or say whatever they want whenever they want. You have to have rules and punishment. Total freedom is chaos.
Cancel culture is dumb as fuck. I say just stick to your guns and never bow to people trying to stifle or shut you down. Sure racist or harmful things should be stopped but you shouldn't get cancelled for saying jokes.
You can have guns in your region? Please tell me you can't, please !
It's actually stupid behavior by self-indulgent egotistical snowflakes. Ooohhhhhh!! Words! SCARY STUFF!!! GTFOH with that shit.
And these college students shutting down controversial speakers? I'm a complete flaming liberal and I like to punch these kids in the throat. They should be ashamed of themselves and the colleges who give into them should be even more ashamed.
I miss this type of college where it was about partying and everybody got along! Besides, you probably couldn't make a movie like Animal House today because that would be canceled too!!
It's a threat when used in a wrong way. Which is it from either side.
Those for it want to just get rid of people they don't like, while those who hate on cancel culture want to get away with doing bad things.
People are crazy and want things black and white. When grey exists.
Anyone rational one can see when it's wrong and when it's right.
The typical way it goes cancel culture is correct when someone does something criminal, but it's wrong when someone just say's an opinion you don't agree with whether it's moral opinion or not.

Depends on the situation.
If the person did something minor and not a total disaster then they shouldn’t be cancelled. We should always collect the facts, evidence, truths we have before we point the finger.
Just somethings the allegations are too horrible that cancellation is inevitable even if it isn’t all that bad.
Yes it absolutely does. It not only says, "Only I am right," but it also says, "There is NO ROOM for any opinion except mine! If you don't agree with ME, you have NO RIGHT TO BE HEARD!" This is the absolute HEIGHT of arrogance and self-absorption! And it's also a way of asserting dominance! People in this country used to be able to disagree without needing to kill each other! We;ve lost that, and we badly need it back!
It's a threat regardless of who is doing it. The intolerant right or the intolerant left.
I do find it a little more nauseating when it comes from the Left, just because of the values the left purports to have, but most cancel culture is unacceptable either way.
Cancel culture is quite literally totalitarian in a ways, they refuse to talk / have argument and just block / scream call a red flag anything that isn't what they love.
It's just intolerance and a threat. They want to say whatever hateful thing they want, but if you even say the wrong thing by accident you will get threats, harassment and risk losing your job or even your home.
Yes, I am at the point in my life that I do not have to worry about losing my job but it would be disturbing to me if I could not express my support for President Trump and my distaste for the Biden /Harris administration.
This is America you cab voice whatever you want
Wow! That sucks I'll be honest I'm not a fan of Trump but I'll never force my views and opinions on you. To me that's what makes this country great we're all allowed to live life on our terms
@Bklynbadboy12 This happened all the time. It got worse when Biden got into office. People lost their jobs and were investigated by the FBI. Parents that criticized the teachers union were routinely arrested. People who refused the covid vaccine were fired from their jobs and prohibited from collecting unemployment. This would not happen in a free country. .
This question seems really US-focused, I don't see cancel culture in my country, so there's logically no threat lol
cancel culture only leads to eco chambers thus causing more polarization and hate despite it supposedly being done to stop that.
Yes and it's toxic. There are just people who are just bored and wanted to sound like a hero so they join the crowd without even judging the situation properly. They just want to make excuses to bully anyone because they're bored.
I would say keep that matter with the law. https://youtu.be/V4L3WxFLgSc?si=bGYUftiUd82TMCZY take a look at this. Just two people accuse that guy of being a Pedo without judging him properly and a lot of people just believed. If it is really that bad then they should have just called the cops. But instead they take matters into their own hands as if they are the professionals.
It was in Nazi Germany, then USSR/Russia and in Communist China. China is perfecting it with reputation softwire.
No regime in history that practiced censorship was shown ultimately to be the right side
Cancel culture is good and bad, but mostly bad. Usually used by snowflakes who got their feelings hurt.
Isn’t the act brought on by cancel culture in itself an act that would be the cause of cancel culture? Does cancel culture begot cancel culture?
I thought it was dead! How, exactly, do you cancel a PERSON?
No its bs the alt right made up to fuel the culture wars.
HAHA!.. It is a CYBER CLOWNSHOW!
Yes it do those thing.
Yea it could be.
Yes, they are a threat
It's literally exactly as you described it as.
Yeah
