Do you believe in cancel culture?

I don't need to believe or not. It already exists, like gravity, regardless of people's beliefs.
Do I agree with it? No, and for various reasons.
¹Censoring only drives the target underground, which makes countering them even harder.
²Incentivising secrecy of what the public (& security-forces) would would best know raises the danger even further.
³Let them make fools of themselves in public. Sometimes, their own works are the best, most-effective, most-repulsive tool of dissuasion.
⁴With their arguments, modes of persuasion, and track-record of claims kept public, effective counter-arguments can more easily analyzed, researched, developed, and tested.
⁵Better a known, easily-visible, easily-recognizable threat than a silent, very well-hidden snake stealthily slithering among the blissfully unaware, right?
⁶Putting yourself in a bubble does not make the threat cease to exist. Demanding blissful ignorance is a suicidal and/or masochistic.
⁷It's already proven proven dangerously ineffective in current affairs. Just look at Berlin's state-media reports on alleged Neo-Nazi groups. Berlin has long banned Nazism, Nazi-symbols, etc. in Germany. And now, the groups have successfully infiltrated their civil-government,

And mind you: This is a series of admissions from their government's state-media. (And state-medias are known for toning-down negative-reports to not make their government and/or nation look too bad, right? So, how bad is it, really?). How's the censorship working-out for Germany? Are we sure we want to employ the same method for any other threats?
Also, famous people (celebrities, historical-figures, even dubbed 'heroes' by religious-authorities & department/ministry of education of governments across the globe) were all human… and even did awful things, too! (People who still idolize a historical-person as a flawless hero probably hasn't researched enough.) If we had to cleanse the world's histories off the evil & morally-revolting elements (based on the sensitivities of 2021), we'd have nothing. Hell, have you checked the news (today's history-in-the-making)? We can't even do that with current-events! This is madness!
Yes. I believe in my own freedom to choose to not give business to a company because they do something I do not like. I also believe in there being consequences to someones actions and that people who bitch and whine that they are having to answer to a mistake they have made are spoiled children.
Does it mean that people will get hurt? Yes. Is it always fair? No. Do I care? Nope, that is the price for having accountability and the freedom to choose as a consumer.
In a way, yes. Having certain freedoms doesn’t come free of consequences 🤷🏻♀️
People have a right to remove support and favour of those they don’t agree with the actions of. That said though I do believe with today’s social media we have a bad habit of forming opinions based on what is seen or read second, third and fourth hand which may not be the true story or accurate series of events which has led to those opinions
Uh it depends, public figures who do really heinous stuff like rape or something can get cancelled all day and idgaf
Some guy who once said something racist 7 years ago should just be able to apologise and move on tho

I don’t pay it any mind. If I like a song I’m gonna listen to it or if I like a movie or tv show I’m gonna watch it. I don’t care if that person is cancelled or not.
I agree to a certain extent, we can appreciate the art apart from the artist but at the same time some artists are just so bad that it kind of ruins the art as a whole and makes it hard to be as entertained from it because of that lingering feeling of whatever horrible act they’ve committed like bill cosby for example. Whenever I look at him I can never see the warm happy man that he used to be, all I see is a predator and r*pist
Oddly enough I have lived my life in such a way that cancel culture does not effect me. I do not use social media except for GaG which I found by accident one day and if I get kicked off this I won't really care. I have a job where I can have conservative views and nobody will care. My kids are all conservatives and so is my wife. I love America and all the advantages we have here. I refuse to let anyone tell me what to think and how to act. So even though cancel culture exists, I completely ignore it.
I'm pretty sure it exists and I honestly find it stupid as fuck.
'Oh, we can't have that, because it's offensive', it's a fucking joke and people are too stupid to understand that, then they're a joke.
Comedians are our saviours, because they can joke about anything, regardless of how taboo it is, because it's just a fucking joke, I'm sick to death of people being pussies.
I know a lady who was the queen of cancel culture a few years ago. She couldn't handle and difference in opinion or political views, etc. She would shun friends for this. But since she is a Social Worker, I think eventually she realized that is against what she is supposed to stand for. So she attempts to tolerate different views now.
I do t care what it is in life that you or I should say what I'm trying to do for me to under stand it I just experience it and I don't need to get some things right the first time i need to experience it live it feel it to become it ,, I dont believe in lables if you want to lable it its living learning loving becoming alive
It's beyond stupid. Let people think differently from you. Even more, you can't cancel history just because it doesn't agree with current beliefs of the time
Only people who never did any wrong should be allowed to cancel others. The problem is a lot of people on Twitter ( the blue checkmarks) who are trying to cancel others end up getting cancel themself for saying worse shit in the past. The woke crowd are the most toxic group in society. They always pretend to have this moral high ground over others , while hiding skeletons in their closets. Its "confession through projection "
I do, in fact the next person on the cancel culture chopping block is the current Teen Vogue editor-in- chief for supposed anti-asian tweets from about a decade ago. https://nypost.com/2021/03/08/teen-vogue-staffers-call-out-new-editor-in-chief-over-anti-asian-tweets/
Cancel culture is a term made up by the far right fake news to try to spin off trump having his Twitter banned for trying to overthrow democracy, in an effort to start building their campaign for 2022.
Cancel culture is very real. I don't support it and believe everyone deserves second chances. The idea that we banish people from society, not allowing them to work or go to school is wrong.
I'd much rather call it cancer culture. Much more fitting these days.
What does this all even mean anymore? Its all getting crazy.
I think its one of the MOST dangerous things that exists in the West today...
No I don’t. You can’t ‘cancel’ history to suit the current narrative.
The best thing to cancel would be any "cancel culture".
Ehh, I think it’s always existed and it’s just more noticed these days. Corporations fire actors all the time.
I can separate art from the artist, I view art as a positive contribution to society and humanity.
Cancel Culture is a creation of The Intersectional/Identitarian Mob, you can only be cancelled if you give in and allow it to happen.
YUP. Another name of it is called voting with your dollar.
Cancel culture only works on financials
I believe it’s a real thing given that a ton of people get cancelled. But it don’t believe it’s a good thing.
some things always needed to be, some things are being taken too far
There is a cancel culture.
Should there be?
No!!!
No. I think its the logical evolution of trolling
Nope, they are a bunch of fags.
I don't support it, if that's what you're asking
Its idiocy.. Modern day book burning..
Why do you think so?
part of it is they are canceling people without trial.. Say for instance someone is accused of sexual misconduct. Accused. He is often times canceled without trial, Without a chance for defense Nothing. The way i see it before i judge someone, they deserve a fair trial, and if proven innocent, left alone, if proved guilty, Jailed..
The book burning part, Canceling dr Seuss. I read all 6 of the books they basically banned. None of them were even slightly racist, yet they are canceled because some idiotic academic felt the need to do it..
Or Take Gina Carano.. Loss of job simply because of her personal views. None of which is acceptable.
I can see your view on sexual assault, however a lot of victims of sexual assault are unable to get any evidence and therefore their abuser isn’t able to be fairly prosecuted and statistically speaking the number of wrongly convicted sexual assaults are significantly lower than the number of rightly convicted sexual assaults and that’s why I believe that theirs such a stigma around people who are said to have done such things.
And for the whole dr she’s things, It wasn’t book burning. The company itself took those 6 books off the shelf’s because of their racist imagery since most schools weren’t buying them because of it so it was more of a supply and demand type of thing that took the books of the shelf’s.
I’m not sure about Gina Carson though, so I’ll look into it personally but I agree that it’s very extreme that her views made her lose her job. Unless her jobs involved with some type of media company because than it would make sense for them to want to fire her since most companies with a big media presence want to uphold and maintain a certain image so having someone hired that has a lot of controversy might make sense in that context.
On the sexual assault thing. Innocent until proven guilty. That is our law. You cannot have a society where you are guilty until proved innocent. That would be a very bad thing. Suddenly you would have murderers executed, and then evidence would prove them innocent..
It is better to let 10 guilty people go than it is to allow one innocent person to suffer punishment unjustly.
Have you ever actually read those books? If not, then you cannot know whats in them, all you have is what someone else told you. I personally have read them, i own the entire collection of Dr Seuss books. There is no racist imagery in them.. None.
And the last part, She was canceled because she tweeted about people canceling people due to opinions and political views. She said "Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews" Which is what the left is doing to conservatives. the same conservatives that formed the republican party with the singular intent of freeing the slaves... the same republican party that had the first black senator, the first female senator.. The same republican party that fought segregation and won.. and abolished jim crow laws.
I believe it’s a blight on society.
No, it's dumb.
I can't stand Gen Z Mfs
No I don't, its a disease.
How about we just cancel the cancel culture.
Nope.
No, of course not.
