So I watching an old 1943 Popeye cartoon. Brutus walks with the lovely “Olive oil” and he promises her the world and fishnet stockings to boot and he tries to get her throughout the cartoon. Meanwhile, Popeye beats up a man in armor two Jaguars an alligator and Brutus to win his beloved back.

Now I’m thinking, Is this cartoon for children or adults, remember it was made in 1943

Haha I wanna see the episode now!! I'm pretty certain in those times it was considered definitely for CHILDREN. And yes even with the promotion of "strong man" and "floozy woman". I guess haha the artist and writer were putting their own fantasy out there. Maybe there wasn't much regulation so they could get away with it as nobody monitored it. I mean... ha... heroes aren't even allowed to smoke like Popeye did these days.

There are a lot of alludes to rape in 1940’s cartoons. It was an easy way to make a damsel in distress, a hero, and a villain. Literally like 50% of the betty boop cartoons have her getting almost assaulted somehow

I enjoyed the reurns when i was a kid. And shown during kid time! In kid channel.

Get that bully! use force and violence against the violent! That is the whole idea of police, to use violence against the violent!

If kids can't see ANY violence they say defund the police!

If japan sank a few boats and killed some people in pearl harbor we can't stoop to their level and use violence... can we?

I loved the old Popeye cartoons. The later o es were just garbage. Maybe life was really like that in the 40s
