Perhaps the solution is to form a confederation of the states and let the larger cities within the state vote to remain in the state, join another state, or form their own state. Return the military to states and or the people. If we retain the federal government, remove their power to tax and enforce laws. Let them survive on donations from the states and the people. Limit the Supreme Court to settling disputes between the states and, except for moral power, remove their power to enforce ruling.

That will allow people to vote with their feet and leave states with high taxes or laws they disapprove of. Competition between the states for the people will result in people moving to states with the best laws.

You're thinking too simply, the US has too many enemies. If say it turned into a siege that would last less than a week because of the water supplies in modern cities, China, Iran, Russia, and even our allies would get involved to keep cities going for months.

If Red areas were looking to take a beating, they would ship weapons systems, optics, artillery, whatever it takes to keep us tearing each other apart. Hell, we've written the playbook for stoking the fire of unrest and raising insurgencies, those groups are still around and got our training. The military, police, and veterans are a very small percentage of the population

I think we're at a point now where even if some wizard offered middle ground solutions, no one would listen to or want them. I also highly doubt it will become civil war so much as civil unrest and more return to state measures. Republicans already don't trust federal elections when Democrats win, and Democrats don't trust them when Republicans win. It's the logical next step, that or another country training and funding an insurgent group of US citizens to kill their rivals.

I don't think we're at the organized killing level though, civil unrest, yes. The federal government nor state governments would ever allow a national divorce or divide for taxes or currency, only policy.

They would have to apologize for stealing the election and get all our billions of dollars back from Ukraine. Huge apologies for shooting our presidential candidate. In fact kiss his bare ass on live stream. Then there may be a chance in the next decade.

If you look at countries that took up communism it was largely in response to the masses being abused by those at the top. But afterwards they still got abused by those at the top, they just had a different name. The same thing would happen if the USA went to the far right, either way the little guy always gets fucked by extremism while those at the top get richer.

A lot depends on how badly the right disrupts the coming election, both before it begins and after if finishes. Of particular concern is the response of the right in terms of vote suppression before the election, and it's response after the election should Trump lose relative to attempts to prevent certification of the election. Violence is possible and in my opinion likely.

The right is focused on conspiracy theories regarding supposed voting fraud, and views any loss by a Rupublican candidate as evidence of such fraud. Historically, the result has often been violence despite a complete lack of evidence of fraud.

Historically, the left does not engage in violence in response to election possibilities or results, and that is unliketo to change in this instance.
