What does the left gain from pointing out that Trump killed the republican border deal?

This is easy to answer: He didn't want to actually solve the problem.

The border deal was bipartisan and would have been passed and actually accomplished something.

The problem from a Trump perspective is that he was running for President and something you need to do when you aren't the incumbent is point out problems the incumbent administration has and then say you'll fix them.

So, if the border deal had passed, then the border ceases to be a campaign issue. Trump couldn't whine about the border and, just as bad, Biden could say the border problem was fixed (or at least made better) during his administration.

So, Trump, who wasn't even actually a politician but a citizen, influenced the GOP leadership to abandon a deal that they themselves had made.

Of course, most rank and file MAGA ilk will keep whining about the border, but some GOP voters realize that this is just political bullshit and not vote for Trump because it.

You see, those GOP now-former Trump voters recognized that Trump put Trump first and not America first which is exactly what he did by pressuring the GOP not to sign the bipartisan border deal which was good for America.

It is only natural for the Democrats to point this out and create more voters who recognize that Trump is really only in it for Trump; he's not really all that interested in helping America.

Democrats agreed but then Trump told Republicans to kill the bill and so they did. They never wanted border security. They just want to run on it politically because it will get them votes.

It's clear that Trump didn't want the issue at the border solved. He wanted to use it as a campaign issue, but made moves to make sure it was not passed. How can anyone trust someone who kills plans to fix problems just to use it as a political tool?

The point is that the Repubs use the border issue as their biggest finger pointing tactic to blame the Dems. So both sides got a bill together, worked on by BOTH parties, and before it could even get voted on, Trump told his lackies to vote against it because it would look like a "win" for Biden.

What do the Dems "gain"? Mainly to show that the GOP isn't REALLY interested in resolving the border issue, but rather to use it as a way to stir up hate and get re-elected. You want proof? They did nothing to try and resolve during the Trump years, or when they had control of BOTH houses of Congress. They are the "do nothing" party.
