We like to be young and fresh, like the NEW PRODUCT TO ACQUIRE, the one that we desperately want because it will bring us joy! For 30 seconds. After that, we resume the quest for the NEXT PRODUCT TO ACQUIRE THAT IS EVEN MORE NEW goes on. And on. And on. It's not just infinite consumerism, it's also fear of age, and fear of death. The more age and death are away from us, the more we (falsely) feel untouchable by the inevitable. We want to forget what is coming for us all, so we marginalize those representing our future, because looking at them, at our future, is unbearable.

It's also cultural yes, some societies on this planet are respecting elders very much, for their wisdom. Their supposed, expected wisdom. Because life experience doesn't bring wisdom, it brings life experience. What you end up doing with this experience is diverse, that can be bitterness, nostalgia, and not wisdom for example.

Because our society values what's "cool" and not what is right or wise. Murderers and drug dealers are valued higher than our elders.

It's the same as when you have kids and they grow up a bit, they think they know everything. It's fine though, they will learn as they get older and the new generation will ignore them too.
